Clay Felker, 1925-2008

  • Media legend Clay Felker, the founder of New York magazine, died today at the age of 82. Though many attempts were made to duplicate the title’s success—including some by Felker himself—no one was ever able to capture the same lightning in a bottle. Writing for New York, Kurt Andersen (both a follower and successor) says, “Practically every species of insidery, smart-ass Web journalism carries bits of his DNA. He permanently transformed his white-hot corner of the world.”
