About a quarter-century ago, consumers couldn’t buy Beatles CDs. Existing contracts with Paul McCartney and Co. didn’t cover rights to the new medium.
Well, the situation is being repeated with legal digital downloads of the Beatles catalog.
Talks with the band’s reps have broken down, meaning forget those iTunes Store purchase in the near future.
“There are a couple of sticking points,” McCartney said in his characteristically droll manner. “What else is new?”
Nothing. Everyone involved seems confident there will be a deal eventually — just in time for negotiations to start on whatever the next new technology is.
