Deep in Red Sox country, Phoenix editor Lance Gould suggests Major League Baseball—now embroiled in the Mitchell Report on steroid use in the great American pastime—look to South Africa’s post-Apartheid government’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and Mikhail Gorbachev‘s glasnost for rehab tips. We’d add a reality TV element, where players earning more than $1 million a year are randomly selected to live in a house together and have every minute of their lives taped (an effort that would probably result in more action than actual baseball games—and roughly the same amount of ball-scratching).
