Jean Stapleton, who played one of TV’s most iconic characters, died Friday at the age of 90.
Stapleton starred as Edith Bunker, Archie Bunker’s long-suffering wife, from 1971 to 1979. It was a show that changed TV sitcoms forever.
The beloved “dingbat” — as Edith was often called — addressed issues like breast cancer and sexuality, topics that had never before been mentioned in a sitcom.
Stapleton continued acting into her late 70s.
