Marcia Wallace Dies At 70, Her 'Simpsons' Character Edna Krabappel To Be Retired

Marcia Wallace’s voice and laugh were so unique that her The Simpsons character of Edna Krabappel
is being retired as a result of the actress’ death on Friday.

Wallace, 70, who first came to fame on The Bob Newhart Show, died from pneumonia.

She’d voiced the chain-smoking teacher, Mrs. Krabappel since The Simpsons began in 1990.

“She was beloved by all at The Simpsons and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character,” executive producer Al Jean said on Saturday.
