Honey Boo Boo Child will don purple for Spirit Day Friday, GLAAD announced, as reality TV's unlikeliest superstar will join her Uncle Poodle and celebrities such as Ricky Martin in supporting LGBT youth and rallying against bullying.
The great George Takei will serves as ambassador, while other celebs who've pledged support to Friday's nationwide proceedings include Jimmy Kimmel, Lance Bass, Chaz Bono, Kathy Griffin, Sonja Morgan and Mario Lopez. Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association are also participating, GLAAD says.
The pop culture phenomenon has had a busy week in Hollywood, appearing on Jimmy Kimmel and dining at Lisa Vanderpump's Beverly Hills restaurant Villa Blanca on her sojourn out west.
The Toddlers & Tiaras star (real name: Alana Thompson) is just 7, but has emerged as one of the highest-rated acts on reality television this year. She and her family are slated to appear in a Christmas special on TLC this holiday season.
GLAAD suggests Spirit Day observances such as RSVPing on Facebook to wearing purple Friday, and going purple on Facebook and Twitter. Or, text PURPLE to 80888 to donate $5 to support the important work GLAAD, GLSEN and The Trevor Project do every day to end bullying and support LGBT youth.
