Running into trouble with the law is bad enough, but when you're a celebrity, there's just no escaping the moment those handcuffs were slapped on your wrists. Fans love to see their favorite celebs succeed, but there's just something exciting about watching them at their lowest. RadarOnline.com has collected the greatest celebrity mugshots of all time. These aren't the head shots these celebs were hoping you'd see. From DUIs to assault, Hollywood's most famous faces have had some embarrassing moments and unfortunate run-ins with the law.
Mugshots are not created equal. For every frowning Nick Nolte you get a smiling Bruno Mars. Some might smile, some might frown, but each one of these celebrities surely would have rather been smiling for a selfie instead of a mugshot. They're known for being glamorous, but these celebrities traded in that glamour for a stint in the big house. Phil Spector
The Crime:
The former Grammy-winning music producer was found guilty in 2009 for the death of Lana Clarkson six years earlier. The actress was found slumped over in a chair at Spector's California mansion with a gunshot wound through the roof of her mouth.
The Time:
In 2009, he was sentenced to 19 years to life for Clarkson's murder.
Career Impact:
Spector is reportedly housed in a prison health care facility in Stockton, California, where he's been since October 2013. He will be eligible for a parole hearing in 2025.
R Kelly
The Crime:
After turning himself in on February 22, 2019, rapper R. Almost two weeks later on March 6, 2019, Kelly was arrested in Chicago for failing to pay his ex-wife Drea Kelly child support. The rapper and singer owes $161,633 to Drea, with whom he shares three children
The Time:
Kelly's bond was set at $1 million dollars. The terms of his bond also state that the rapper must surrender his passport and have no contact with anyone under age 18.
Career Impact:
Kelly has been fighting charges of child pornography and running a sex cult where he separates victims from their family for year now, costing him millions of fans -- and their money.
Jussie Smollett
The Crime:
Empire actor Jussie Smollett was arrested on suspicion of filing a false report February 20, 2019, following the investigation into an alleged attack on January 29, 2019. Chicago police have stated that the actor paid $3,500 to two men to stage the attack.
The Time:
Smollett maintained his innocence, and eventually Chicago prosecutors dropped the charges against him in a surprising reversal. But speculation regarding what actually happened remains high, and thanks to a lawsuit from the city of Chicago to recover costs, his legal troubles continue
Career Impact:
"Empire" came back for a sixth season. Smollett did not. In the shows final season premiere, Smollett's character was said to have run off to London.
Michael Madsen
The Crime:
Actor Michael Madsen was arrested on March 24, 2019, for driving under the influence. Madsen was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department after his Land Rover struck a pole in Malibu, California, according to the report.
The Time:
Madsen's bail was set at $15,000, and he was released from jail the next day.
Career Impact:
Not much. The Reservoir Dogs and Hateful Eight actor has previously entered court-ordered rehab in 2012. He is currently in pre-production on at least five new projects.
Stacey Dash
The Crime:
Stacey Dash was arrested on September 29, 2019, for allegedly slapping and pushing her husband during a heated argument in New Port Richey, Florida.
The Time:
The Clueless star posted bail on September 30, 2019, and was released that morning. She entered a written plea of not guilty for the domestic battery charge, according to documents filed in Pasco County Circuit Court on October 2, 2019.
Career Impact:
Dash has gone years without a major credit, outside of her work on Sharnado 4: The 4TH Awakens. She has recently served as a Fox News contributor.
Amber Portwood
The Crime:
Amber Portwood was yet another criminal teen mom in 2010 when she was arrested for striking her then-boyfriend Gary Shirley.
The Time:
Portwood had struck a deal to finish rehab and earn her GED instead of going to prison. She reneged on that deal however in 2012 and was sentenced to five years in behind bars. She only served 17 months.
Career Impact:
Jail seemingly had a positive impact on the reality star. She earned her GED and completed drug rehab in those 17 months.
Nathan Griffith
The Crime:
Evans's ex, Nathan Griffith has been arrested on nine different occasions. One of the arrests was for a DUI and resisting arrest after he and Evan were stopped by police after racing to get home to get frisky. The cops were not sympathetic!
The Time:
Griffith served 11 days of a 47 day jail sentence. His DUI charge was dropped but his charge for resisting arrest was not.
Career Impact:
In terms of being a reality star known for a tumultuous relationship and constant run-ins with the law, he's doing just great! But as a person? Well, he's been arrested nine times!
Heather Locklear
The Crime:
Heather Locklear was arrested in Santa Barbara, Calif. in 2008 for suspicion of driving under the influence. The former Melrose Place star was spotted driving erratically outside a parking lot.
The Time:
Locklear's case was dismissed after agreeing to a plea deal. She was sentenced to three years probation, a $700 fine and ordered to attend a road and safety class.
Career Impact:
Locklear found himself in more controversy than starring roles after arrest. She was once again in trouble after a domestic dispute in 2018.
Lindsay Lohan
The Crime:
Poor Lindsay Lohan has had a grand total of six different mugshots, but her very first came in 2007. Not too far removed from her Mean Girls success, the star was arrested for driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and possession of cocaine.
The Time:
It was then that Lohan entered the time-honored celebrity tradition of pleading to a misdemeanor and spending time in rehab.
Career Impact:
Sadly, this was the beginning of a downward spiral for Lohan. She would be arrested five more times and quickly went from Hollywood it girl to Hollywood bad girl.
Mama June
The Crime:
Mama June Shannon was arrested for contempt in court during a court hearing in 2008. The hearing took place after she failed to make child support payments to her mother, Sandra Hale, who acted as legal guardian to Shannon's eldest daughter, Anna Shannon.
The Time:
According to reports, Shannon's charge for contempt of court was dismissed the very same day.
Career Impact:
Her criminal past may have been kept under wraps during Here Comes Honey Boo Boo's run, but other family transgressions proved to be her and her family's fall from stardom when the show was cancelled.
Paris Hilton
The Crime:
Paris Hilton was arrested for driving under the influence in 2007 but it was arrest for a probation violation after driving with a suspended license later that year that got her in serious trouble.
The Time:
Hilton was sentenced to a 45 day jail sentence for violating her probation after failing to attend alcohol education classes after her first arrest. She was allowed home confinement at first but was then sent back to jail to serve the rest of her term.
Career Impact:
Hilton's reality show, The Simple Life was affected by the legal troubles of both Hilton and Nicole Richie. The show ended its run soon after and Hilton's popularity began to fade—especially once her stylist gained notoriety.
Justin Bieber
The Crime:
Nobody could have ever guessed that Justin Bieber would end up in jail when he first burst onto the scene. Yet, on a fateful Miami night in 2014, Bieber was arrested for driving under the influence after speeding in his Lamborghini through a Miami Beach neighborhood. Beiber wound up being charged for resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license.
The Time:
Bieber entered a guilty plea for his crimes, and was let off relatively light. He was sentenced to 12 hours of anger management classes, alcohol education classes and had his DUI charge dropped altogether.
Career Impact:
He may have not served in prison, but the charges and the countless headlines that came with them were enough to scare Bieber straight. He apologized to his fans for his bratty behavior and vowed never to be handcuffs ever again.
Bruno Mars
The Crime:
Even the most harmless of pop-stars have found themselves in handcuffs. Take for instance, Bruno Mars who was arrested after being found with a bag of cocaine in the bathroom of the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. He faced possible felony charges but you couldn't tell that from looking at his chipper mugshot.
The Time:
Mars may have been smiling in his mugshot because he knew pop stars such as himself rarely do any serious time. While he may have faced some jail time, Mars was merely given 12 months probation, a $2,000 fine, 200 hours community service and mandatory drug counseling. Not bad for a Vegas bender!
Career Impact:
Mars's career didn't suffer any serious setbacks. On the contrary, he's gone on to achieve even greater success, winning Album of the Year at the 60th Grammy Awards. The incident worked as a reality check for Mars and he hasn't been in trouble since.
Mel Gibson
The Crime:
Mel Gibson was booked for driving under the influence in 2006 in Malibu. The charge was routine enough but his wildly offensive tirade following the traffic stop made headlines.
The Time:
Gibson pleaded no contest to the DUI charge and was sentenced to two years probation. But that wasn't the last of his worries.
Career Impact:
He didn't serve any time in an actual jail, but he was in Hollywood jail for years following his arrest. His racist and misogynist comments virtually ended his career as a leading man and hurt his standing as a director.
Robert Downey Jr.
The Crime:
Robert Downey Jr. had already been arrested several times and even spent a year in prison. But his final arrest came in 2001 after being found in a Culver City alley with cocaine in his system.
The Time:
Downey pleaded no contest to a felony cocaine possession charge, avoiding another stint in prison—receiving three years probation instead.
Career Impact:
This was the last straw for Downey. After years of substance abuse and stints in prison and rehab, the actor finally got his life together and had a comeback for the ages in 2008 when he landed the role of Iron Man.
Matthew McConaughey
The Crime:
Matthew McConaughey just wanted to play his bongos naked in peace in 1999. Too bad his neighbor didn't share his love of naked bongo playing, because he called the cops and McConaughey ended up arrested for possession of marijuana.
The Time:
McConaughey spent nine hours in county jail before he was released and the drug charges were eventually dropped.
Career Impact:
The incident acted as nothing more than a funny story and showed off the actor's love of weed and bongos. McConaughey did learn one important lesson however: always close your window when you're playing the bongos naked!
Shia LaBeouf
The Crime:
Shia Labeouf was arrested and charged with obstruction, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, in 2017 after an altercation in Savannah, Georgia.
The Time:
LaBeouf pleaded to guilty to obstruction and no contest to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to anger management treatment and probation.
Career Impact:
LaBouf's had brushes with the law before, but this one was most shocking due to his misogynist and racist comments. This, alongside his previous arrests have hurt his career over the years, but he recognized how problematic his behavior was.
Michael Jackson
The Crime:
The King of Pop, Michael Jackson was arrested for a second time in 2003 after he was accused of molesting a 13-year old boy at his Neverland Ranch.
The Time:
After a trial that lasted nearly two years, Jackson was acquitted of all charges including child molestation and intoxicating a child for purposes of molesting a child.
Career Impact:
Jackson's career took a big hit after the trial. His famed Neverland Ranch closed down amid rumors of financial troubles and he chose to move to Bahrain shortly after the trial. He later died in 2009.
The Crime:
Jay-Z turned himself in after being suspected of stabbing record producer, Lance "Un" Rivera at a Manhattan nightclub in 1999.
The Time:
The rap star faced a possible 15 years in prison for the felony assault. He plead to a misdemeanor however, and was sentenced to three years probation.
Career Impact:
Jay-Z and his musical empire would have suffered a massive setback had he served a lengthy sentence. Fortunately, he was able to move on to better things. To think, he and Beyonce would have never been!
Diddy
The Crime:
Sean "Diddy" Combs has had multiple encounters with the law but his most serious came in 1999 after an altercation at a New York City night club. The rap mogul was arrested after he allegedly fired his gun inside the club after an argument with another man. Diddy–then known as Puff Daddy—fled the scene with his then-girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, before being caught by police. His rap protege at the time, Jamal "Shyne" Barrow was also arrested after firing inside the club—wounding three people in the process.
The Time:
Diddy faced serious charges after that night. Aside from gun possession, he faced a bribery charge after he allegedly offered his driver $50,000 in cash and a $40,000 pinky ring given to him by JLO (that must have stung). Diddy faced a possible 15 years in prison for his alleged crimes, however his legal team which included the infamous Johnny Cochran managed to clear him of all charges as he was found not guilty.
Career Impact:
Diddy may have avoided jail time but there were some serious repercussions. Shyne was sentenced to 10 years in prison for reckless endangerment and assault while Diddy eventually came to a financial settlement with the three shooting victims.
Eminem
The Crime:
Jealousy got the better of Eminem when he pistol-whipped a man he thought was kissing his then-wife, Kim Mathers. He was immediately arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.
The Time:
Eminem faced a possible five years sentence for his charges but was able to secure a plea deal. He was sentenced to two years probation after pleading guilty for carrying a concealed weapon and was ordered to pay the victim restitution out of court.
Career Impact:
Eminem definitely earned some street cred after his first arrest. However, his marriage to Kim ended shortly after the altercation.
Meek Mill
The Crime:
Meek Mill had already spent plenty of time in legal trouble, but his most notable infraction came in 2017 for violating his parole after reportedly failing his drug test and a compliance that limited his travel.
The Time:
The judge threw the book at Meek—sentencing him to two to four years in prison. He only served five months however after Philadelphia's Supreme Court found "credibility issues" with the arresting officer's testimony.
Career Impact:
Meek's arrest didn't just impact his career, but drew attention to the criminal reform system in general after outrage was sparked within the rap community.
Snooki
The Crime:
The third season of Jersey Shore saw Snooki getting arrested for public drunkenness.
The Time:
A night in the drunk tank, a $500 dollar fine, and community service were handed down to Snooki after her drunken escapades.
Career Impact:
Snooki's arrest was just another night for the Jersey Shore star. Her hard partying ways never reached criminal levels again, but she did return to the shore in 2018 in MTV's Jersey Shore: Family Reunion.
Aaron Carter
The Crime:
Aaron Carter's horrifying mugshot came after an arrest in Georgia for a DUI charge.
The Time:
Carter didn't serve any time but spent two weeks in rehab.
Career Impact:
Carter admitted to this being part of a low point in his life and made the effort to change his life. While he hasn't been the star he was as a teen idol, he's cleaning up his life at the very least.
Katt Williams
The Crime:
Katt Williams had multiple arrests in 2016, one of which was for allegedly stealing a photographer's camera and assaulting her.
The Time:
Williams was pleaded no contest to a felony count of second-degree robbery and was sentenced to three years of probation and 54 weeks of anger management classes.
Career Impact:
Williams' career was overshadowed by his various run-ins with the law and his anger management classes did not seem to work, at all!
Hugh Grant
The Crime:
Hugh Grant disappointed plenty of fans after being arrested for lewd conduct in a public space in 1995. The British actor was caught receiving oral sex from a prostitute in Los Angeles.
The Time:
Grant faced six months in jail but received a $1, 180 fine and placed on probation for two years after pleading no contest.
Career Impact:
The scandal didn't hurt his career as much as it could have, possibly due to owning up to his arrest straight away.
Shailene Woodley
The Crime:
Shailene Woodley may look unassuming, but she also found herself in handcuffs—albeit for a noble cause. Woodley was arrested in 2016 during a protest of the Dakota Access Pipeline. Her fame may have had a hand in her arrest, as she noted that she was the only one in her protest group to have been arrested. In fact, the arresting officer admitted that she was "identified" among the group. Maybe he just wasn't a fan of the Divergent films?
The Time:
Luckily, Woodley was released from her cell on the same day and eventually pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly conduct. The plea deal led to one year of unsupervised probation for the actress.
Career Impact:
Woodley's career was never in any danger of being affected negatively. While a large number of actors have tended to get arrested for DUIs, Woodley was one of the few to actually get arrested for a good cause!
Macaulay Culkin
The Crime:
Macaulay Culkin was arrested in 2004 for drug possession after being found with marijuana during a traffic stop in Oklahoma.
The Time:
Culkin pleaded guilty to possession and was sentenced to three one-year deferred sentences and was ordered to pay a $540 fine.
Career Impact:
Culkin's film career was already less than what it used to be during his younger years. But he managed to stay out of trouble following his arrest and focused on his art and music instead.
Mischa Barton
The Crime:
Former star of The O.C. Mischa Barton was arrested in 2007 for DUI in West Hollywood.
The Time:
Barton was sentenced to three years probation and was ordered to attend alcohol education classes and was slapped with a $2,000 fine.
Career Impact:
This was just part of Barton's downward spiral. She had been fired from The O.C. shortly before this arrest and has never attained the level of success she had earlier in her career.
Dustin Diamond
The Crime:
Saved by the Bell actor, Dustin Diamond was arrested in 2015 after allegedly stabbing a bar patron in Wisconsin.
The Time:
Diamond was sentenced to four months in jail but only served three in 2015.
Career Impact:
A comeback wasn't in the cards for Diamond, as he was almost immediately back in trouble with the law after violating his parole.
Nicolas Cage
The Crime:
Nicolas Cage was arrested for domestic abuse and disturbing the peace in New Orleans in 2011.
The Time:
Cage only spent a few hours in jail before being bailed out by Dog the Bounty Hunter—no, seriously. Charges were dropped due to a lack of evidence.
Career Impact:
The arrest was just a small portion of Cage's fall from grace.
John Mayer
The Crime:
John Mayer was arrested in 2001 for driving with a suspended license in Atlanta.
The Time:
According to reports, the case was dismissed one month after the arrest.
Career Impact:
Nothing compared to having a song written about him by Taylor Swift.
Chace Crawford
The Crime:
Former Gossip Girl star, Chace Crawford was arrested in 2010 for possession of marijuana in Plano, Texas.
The Time:
The actor faced up to six months of jail but cut a deal that resulted in community service and probation.
Career Impact:
His career wasn't hurt but he managed to keep up his end of the plea deal and avoided being sent to jail.
Rick Ross
The Crime:
Rick Ross was arrested for aggravated assault, battery, and kidnapping after an incident Fayetteville, Georgia.
The Time:
Ross spent a week in jail after the arrest but managed to avoid serious jail time by entering a plea deal. He was sentenced to five years probation for misdemeanor kidnapping and assault charges.
Career Impact:
As serious as the crimes were, they did very little to impact his career. His health may have taken a hit though after all those legal bills came in!
Blac Chyna
The Crime:
Blac Chyna was arrested at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas in 2016 for felony possession of ecstasy.
The Time:
According to reports, charges were dropped by prosecutors after she stayed clean and trouble free following the arrest.
Career Impact:
Blac Chyna's career has thrived on controversial moments ranging from domestic disputes to a leaked sex tape. An arrest was nothing to her.
Chris Soules
The Crime:
The Bachelor star, Chris Soules, was in serious trouble after fleeing the scene of the fatal car crash he caused in Iowa in 2017.
The Time:
Soules was charged with a felony for leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
Career Impact:
He appeared in Dancing with the Stars and Worst Cooks in America following The Bachelor, but his star quickly faded following his arrest.
Nicole Richie
The Crime:
Richie was caught driving on the wrong side of the freeway in Los Angeles in 2006. She was booked on a DUI charge.
The Time:
She was sentenced to four months in prison but served a mere 82 minutes for her DUI charge.
Career Impact:
Richie avoided any serious legal trouble after her potentially fatal mistake. While her Simple Life fame faded, she continued a quiet, trouble-free career.
Nick Nolte
The Crime:
Few celebrity mugshots compare to the outrageous majesty of Nick Nolte's infamous photo. It was in 2002, when Nolte joined the celebrity DUI club after weaving across the road in his Mercedes. Luckily, a CHP officer stopped him before anyone was hurt. The actor was found drooling by the officer and booked for driving under the influence.
The Time:
Nolte pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor DUI charge and was sentenced to three years probation.
Career Impact:
He may not have been sentenced to do hard time but his mugshot was enough punishment to serve a lifetime!
Terrence Howard
The Crime:
Terrence Howard has had an ugly history of domestic abuse. The first instance came in 2000 when he assaulted his then-wife, Lori McCommas, in front of their three children in Philadelphia.
The Time:
Howard pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct and served no time in jail.
Career Impact:
Surprisingly, Howard's domestic abuse arrests did not destroy his public image. His film roles may have decreased, but he was still able to draw an audience for his hit show, Empire.
Travis Scott
The Crime:
Kylie Jenner's baby-daddy and rapper, Travis Scott was arrested in 2017 for allegedly inciting a riot at one of his concerts in Arkansas.
The Time:
Scott pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay $6,825.31 to an injured concertgoer and $640 in court costs.
Career Impact:
Nothing serious, but he may have learned to think twice before telling his audience to "rush the stage."
Tyga
The Crime:
Jenner's ex, Tyga , was arrested for outstanding warrants following a routine traffic stop in Las Vegas in 2012.
The Time:
Tyga was charged for registration violations, driving without a license and unlawful acts of financial responsibility. The rapper only served a day in jail following his arrest.
Career Impact:
He presumably made sure to pay his parking tickets on time!
Khloe Kardashian
The Crime:
Khloe Kardashian made headlines during the first season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians when she was arrested for a DUI in 2008.
The Time:
While she was sentenced to community service and to attend alcohol-education classes for her crimes, the reality star failed to show up to several of her sessions. She chalked it up to her busy schedule but the judge was not having any of that. Kardashian was then sentenced to spend 30 days in jail.
Career Impact:
Lucky for Kardashian, she only spent three hours of her 30 day sentence due to overcrowding. Was it luck? Was it her fame? Whatever the case, Kardashian's career took off afterwards and she never looked back.
Christian Slater
The Crime:
Christian Slater led police on a short chase in Hollywood in 1989. The Mr. Robot actor crashed into a pole, ran away, and eventually assaulted the arresting officers—with his cowboy boots on no less. He was arrested for evading police, driving under the influence and assault with a deadly weapon.
The Time:
Slater spent 10 days in jail and was sentenced to five years' probation, a fine, and had his driver's license suspended for 18 months.
Career Impact:
Slater's arrest only strengthened the bad boy image he had earned through his role in Heathers. This wouldn't be his first arrest however, as he was detained three more times between then and 2005.
Armie Hammer
The Crime:
Armie Hammer revealed he was arrested in 2011 after being caught with three pot cookies and a pot brownie during a traffic stop in Sierra Blanca, Texas.
The Time:
According to reports, charges were eventually dropped but the actor did spend a night in jail and was forced to pay a $1,000 fine.
Career Impact:
Hammer's arrest happened earlier on in his career and had very little impact. Although his mugshot surely made an impact for how good it looked!
Wesley Snipes
The Crime:
Wesley Snipes was arrested in 2006 for tax evasion after failing to file his taxes for years.
The Time:
Snipes was sentenced in 2010 to serve three years in prison for tax related charges.
Career Impact:
Three years were a long time away from the public eye. The once leading-man, failed to live up to his earlier stardom after being released in 2013.
Amanda Bynes
The Crime:
Amanda Bynes was arrested in 2012 for a DUI in West Hollywood. The actress side-swiped a police vehicle after attempting to cut it off. Not very smart!
The Time:
Bynes agreed to a plea deal and was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to attend an alcohol education course in addition to a fine.
Career Impact:
Unfortunately, this was only the beginning for Bynes' and her downward spiral. Multiple arrests and social media meltdowns marred the former child star's reputation.
The Crime:
Real Housewives of Atlanta star and winner of the most glam mugshot award, Porsha Williams,turned herself in and was booked on a misdemeanor battery charge in 2014 after a brawl with costar, Kenya Moore.
The Time:
Luckily, Williams didn't receive any time for her altercation with Moore as she was charged with a misdemeanor and released on the same day.
Career Impact:
The incident was minor and Williams suffered no real consequences. On top of that, she managed to avoid an unflattering mugshot!
Jenelle Evans
The Crime:
Jenelle Evans has been arrested multiple times since appearing on Teen Mom 2. Her tenth time in handcuffs came in 2013 when she was arrested for breach of peace following a fight with her then-boyfriend, Nathan Giffith.
The Time:
Evans was released hours after being booked.
Career Impact:
Evans's wild-child antics have cost her greatly both at home and at work. Ten arrests in three years will do that to you!
