Same-Sex Celebrity Couples Who Have Tied The Knot

On January 3, Ellen Page and her wife Emma Portner celebrated their two-year wedding anniversary.

The couple, who were first spotted together in July 2017, announced their married status in a social media post that surprised fans.

“Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife,” the Canadian actress wrote at the time.

“Before/after of an over one-year anniversary convo,” Page captioned an Instagram post. “Beyond grateful to all those who fought to allow us to be wife & wife. I love this magical human. I’m so f**king lucky. ❤️?️‍?❤️.”

The pair were right to show gratitude to those same-sex couples who paved the way for their public expression of love.

Among the many pioneers of same-sex love are Ellen Degeneres and wife Portia de Rossi, who recently celebrated 15 years together. Over in England, Elton John has always been proud to show his love for longtime partner David Furnish — even when same-sex marriages weren't yet legalized.

Page and Portner’s union has helped encourage other same-sex couples, whether or not they are on the road to marriage, to follow suit.

After falling head-over-heels for each other, Kaitlynn Carter and Miley Cyrus were able to publicly enjoy their short-lived romance.

Similarly, Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson celebrated their love in an Elvis Presley-themed ceremony in Las Vegas.

Other couples solidified their love around the same time Page and Portner did. Ricky Martin for example, married just one week after they tied the knot. He and his husband, Jwan Yosef, who recently welcomed their fourth child via surrogate, also helped give same-sex couples hope of having a family.

Page and Portner have been open about their sexuality and have been known to celebrate Pride. In June 2019, in honor of Pride month, they posted a tasteful nude photo of them lovingly embracing each other.

“HAPPY PRIDE!!! Sending love,” Page wrote in the caption at the time.

In December 2014, Elton John tied the knot with his longtime boyfriend David Furnish in a touching ceremony at their home in England. They previously completed a civil partnership in 2005 but made it official following England's legalizing of same-sex marriage.

After a decade of dating, Neil Patrick Harris married his longtime love, chef David Burtka in September 2014. They exchanged vows in Italy and Elton John performed at the reception.

Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry started dating in 2011 and tied the knot in March 2014. Following the host's departure from The Talk, the couple has separated due to irreconcilable differences.

Wedding bells were supposed to be in the air for Jillian Michaels and ex-fiancée Heidi Rhoades, but after nine years together, they called it quits in June 2018. The former lovebirds have two children.

Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his husband, Justin Mikita, shared their support for the LGBTQ community in a video by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) in 2019.

“I’m from New Mexico. A lot of my rights are secured there,” Ferguson said in the clip. “But if I traveled right next door to Arizona, I could be kicked out of a restaurant for being gay. I could be denied a mortgage for being gay. I could be fired from a job for being gay, and all that’s within a matter of miles.”

“No one’s rights should be determined by what side of the state line they’re on,” he continued.

The two married in 2013.

Ricky Martin married Jean Yosef in 2018 after two years of dating. They will be celebrating their two-year anniversary on January 10.

Don Lemon isn't married just yet, but he is well on his way. In April, the CNN star, 53, announced his engagement to real estate agent boyfriend Tim Malone.
