In 2014 the stars spent so much time hooking, breaking and making up that it’s a surprising they found time to do any work! Throw in a few surprise weddings and you have the perfect cocktail for amour. Here’s our look back at some of the highs and lows of the love lives of the rich and famous.
In March 2014 Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Chris Martin announced they were “consciously uncoupling” after more than a decade of marriage. A statement on the actress’ Goop website read, “It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate.” And the rest of the world was left scratching their heads as to what it means to consciously uncouple.
Another woman’s rubbish is another girl’s treasure? That’s what Paltrow was to learn when – months after she ditched her rock star husband – Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence snapped him up. The Hunger Games actress started stepping out with the “Yellow” singer in the summer.
Jennifer Lawrence nosedived into her relationship with Chris Martin shortly after ending her on-again, off-again romance with British actor Nicholas Hoult. The X-Men co-stars finally parted ways in 2014 after rekindling their romance the year before.
There’s nothing like hearing your man has, allegedly, been exchanging sexy messages with a transsexual model to scupper a relationship. And so Jennifer Lopez said goodbye to her toy boy lover Casper Smart in the summer after a two-year romance.
In May the Kimye union finally became official when Kim Kardashian and Kanye West exchanged vows in Florence, Italy. A decade after she divorced her first husband and two years after she married her second, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star became Mrs. West.
Somewhere hell must be freezing over because in 2014 Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor did something he vowed never to do again – get married. In September George Clooney married Amal Alamuddin in a lavish ceremony in Venice, Italy after a whirlwind romance that saw the Oxford graduate and high-powered attorney knock him off his feet. At a charity dinner, a couple of weeks before they wed, the actor publicly gushed to his future wife, “I love you very much and I can’t wait to be your husband.”
Unfortunately “dem babies” were not able to keep Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon together. In August the TV presenter confirmed he had split from the singer months earlier after six years of marriage. They are currently reportedly hashing out (among other things) custody of their twins Monroe and Moroccan.
For Sofia Vergara 2014 was all about out with the old and in with the new. Months after calling off her engagement to on-again, off-again love Nick Loeb, she started dating True Blood actor Joe Manganiello, making them quite possibly the most ridiculously good looking couple in Hollywood.
No amount of pleading, hand wringing or public crooning was going to make Paula Patton change her mind about ending her marriage to singer Robin Thicke. As far as she was concerned there were no “Blurred Lines” and she filed for divorce in October, ending a romance that began when they met in high school.
John F Kennedy had Marilyn Monroe; his son had Madonna and now Patrick Schwarzenegger is following in the Kennedy tradition by hooking up with a Hollywood star. In October the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver started dating singer Miley Cyrus.
In December Kate Hudson stunned the showbiz world by announcing she had ended her engagement to her fiancé – and baby daddy – Matt Bellamy. The Muse front man and the actress had been together for four years.

She told the July issue of Cosmopolitan, “You have to go through the mud in order to find that peaceful place.”
At the time of writing this post Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran had broken up for the umpteenth time. Within days of their December split being announced, the singer commented on their failed romance on stage at a Los Angeles concert saying, “F**k that b****h.”
Celebrities who publicly gush about their love are usually left with egg on their face when they eventually call it quits. For months Sherri Shepherd was surprisingly tightlipped about splitting from her husband Lamar Sally in the spring. The actress – who once shared every minutia of their relationship with TV viewers – was still a co-host on The View when the marriage fell apart.
Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber just couldn’t make their young love last and in 2014 they split for good after making up and breaking up several times over. In an interview with a Norwegian radio station in December, Gomez said of her former beau, “I definitely have so much respect and love for him.”

They made a cute couple but in May actress Evan Rachel Wood revealed she had split from husband Jamie Bell. The couple has a son together. He was just 10-months-old when Bell and Wood split after 19 months of marriage.
Jordin Sparks and Jason Derulo – perhaps pop music’s sweetest couple – broke up in September. But, what at first seemed like an amicable split, was revealed to be anything but when the American Idol star released a sample of a new song (a remix of Drake’s “How Bout Now”) slamming the singer. In December Sparks told E!, “I’m dating myself for sure.”
In the summer Michael Strahan’s rep confirmed that his five-year engagement to Nicole Murphy was no more. A source told People magazine, “They’ve been having problems for two years and have been off and on throughout.”

He may still look dark, brooding and like he is in desperate need of cheering up, but in 2014 Robert Pattinson acquired a new girlfriend. Her name is FKA Twigs and she is a British singer. They were first linked to each other in September.
Fans of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo may have mourned the news that Mama June and Sugar Bear split in September. In September Amber Rose announced she had split from husband Wiz Khalifa and rumors that both parties had been unfaithful swiftly followed. She may still be nursing the wounds from her split from estranged husband Lamar Odom but that didn’t stop Khloe Kardashian from dating – on and off – French Montana. She parted ways with the rapper for the second time, in December. A source told Us Weekly, “Khloe just wasn’t ready after Lamar and it was getting too serious.”
In January Pamela Anderson revealed she had secretly remarried her ex-husband Rick Salomon. In July the Baywatch star filed for divorce, only to change her mind and reconcile with her husband in August. As of December they’re still together.

So far Hank Baskett and Kendra Wilkinson are going to end 2014 as a couple. But they’ve had a bumpy ride this year with allegations that the former NFL star cheated on his Playboy Playmate wife with a transsexual model. Although Wilkinson considered splitting from Baskett, they are apparently soldiering on with their two children in tow.
Tumultuous does not begin to describe Johnny Weir’s failed marriage to estranged husband Victor Voronov. The figure skater announced their split in March, after divorce papers had been filed a month earlier. Meanwhile, domestic violence and a leaked nude photo of Weir marred their marriage.
