Prince Harry may be a long way from getting back to his family's good graces.

Prince Harry is said to be a long way from returning to the royal fold despite plans for a significant UK comeback which could see his children educated in Britain and his family spending extended periods in the country.

As Radaronline.com has reported, the Duke of Sussex, 41, and his wife Meghan Markle, 45, are set to establish a permanent British base within weeks while retaining their home in Montecito, California.

Prince Harry Seeking British Base For Family

Prince Harry is looking to rebuild a private personal base within the United Kingdom, sources claimed.

Reported plans to enroll the couple's children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, in a British school suggest the move could amount to considerably more than occasional visits – but King Charles, 77, is said to remain adamant that it would not restore the Sussexes' status as working royals.

A palace source familiar with the situation claimed to Radar: "Harry's desire to spend substantially more time in Britain represents an important personal change, but it would be a mistake to interpret that as evidence that the doors of the royal establishment are suddenly opening to him again. He is very far from being welcomed back into the bosom of The Firm.

"There remains a considerable gulf between Harry rebuilding a private life in the UK and being welcomed back into the inner circle of the Royal Family. The wounds created by everything that has happened over the past several years have not simply disappeared, and there is still a great deal of mistrust surrounding his relationship with the institution.

"What Harry appears to want is the freedom to make Britain a genuine second home for his family, allowing his children to understand their heritage and giving him greater opportunities to maintain his British relationships and charitable work"

The insider noted, "But none of that amounts to a return to royal duty. There have been no meaningful discussions about Harry and Meghan resuming official roles, representing the King or becoming working royals again. As things currently stand, they remain private individuals outside the working monarchy.

"So while Harry may be moving geographically closer to the Royal Family, institutionally he remains a very long way from being back inside The Firm. Those are two entirely separate issues, and nobody at the palace is treating this proposed comeback as a pathway to restoring the position he and Meghan once occupied."

Charles was reportedly informed of Harry's UK plan last weekend, rather than during his reunion with the Sussexes at Highgrove last month, and is said to be "pleased" at the prospect of seeing more of his younger son and grandchildren.

Deep Fractures With Prince William Remain Unresolved

Tension between Prince Harry and Prince William remained a major obstacle.

But Harry's relationship with Prince William, 44, remains a formidable obstacle to any broader royal reconciliation.

Future king William and his wife Catherine, 44, cut contact with the Sussexes after private family disputes and allegations were aired publicly.

Another source claimed: "Establishing a home in Britain might put Harry within easier reach of his family, but geographical proximity is very different from emotional reconciliation. Simply being back in the country more often cannot undo years of damaged relationships or suddenly restore the trust that has been lost.

"There is still considerable hurt on both sides, and the situation with William remains particularly difficult. Their relationship has been fractured by an extraordinary series of very public disagreements, accusations and revelations, and those feelings are not going to disappear because Harry happens to be living a few hours away rather than thousands of miles across the Atlantic."

"There would have to be a much deeper rebuilding of trust before anyone could realistically talk about the brothers having a normal relationship again," the insider continued. "That requires private conversations, time, and a willingness on both sides to address what has happened between them.

"A British base could certainly create more opportunities for Harry to see members of his family and perhaps make those conversations easier to have. But nobody should mistake greater access for reconciliation. He can spend considerably more time in Britain and still remain personally distant from William and other senior members of the Royal Family."

The source added, "Moving closer may remove one practical obstacle, but it doesn't remove the emotional ones. Those are far more complicated, and they have been building for years."

The Ongoing Shift Away From Royal Life

Prince Harry fought legal challenges over his family's police security details.

Harry and Markle infamously stepped back from senior royal duties in 2020 before moving to North America and pursuing financial independence through commercial ventures, including Netflix and Spotify.

Their relationship with the royal family deteriorated further following their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey and the publication of Harry's memoir Spare in 2023.

Harry has repeatedly expressed hope of reconciliation.

Security remains another complication.

Harry has unsuccessfully fought to restore guaranteed taxpayer-funded police protection for his family and has previously maintained bringing Meghan and their children to Britain without adequate protection was unsafe.

The Sussexes lost their previous British base, Frogmore Cottage, in 2023. Harry has subsequently stayed in hotels, with friends, or sought accommodation on royal estates.

During the family's most recent visit, they stayed with his uncle, Earl Spencer, at Althorp in Northamptonshire.

Harry has previously spoken about wanting Archie and Lilibet to experience their British heritage and build relationships with his relatives.

The Duke of Sussex sought a permanent British home for his family.

A source claimed: "What Harry is trying to establish in Britain should be viewed as the rebuilding of a personal life in the country he still considers home, rather than an attempt to recreate the royal existence he left behind. Those are fundamentally different ambitions, and that distinction is important when assessing what this move actually means.

"He wants the ability to spend meaningful periods in Britain, allow his children to develop stronger connections with their British heritage and relatives, and devote more time to the charities and relationships that remain important to him here.

"But none of that means he is attempting to reverse Megxit or simply step back into the position he occupied before 2020. The royal landscape has changed enormously since then, as has Harry's own life, and there is currently no indication that the institution is preparing to restore him to an official role."

The tipster explained, "There is a tendency to interpret any increased presence in Britain as evidence that Harry is somehow returning to the monarchy. In reality, he could establish a home here, spend months of the year in the country and become much more visible in British life while remaining completely outside the working Royal Family.

"Coming home geographically is one thing; being welcomed back into the Firm is something entirely different. Harry appears focused on recovering a piece of the British life he has missed, rather than reclaiming his former place within the institution. A return to Britain should therefore not be mistaken for a return to royal duty."
