Bethenny Frankel is a true New Yorker and when her fellow city dwellers are in trouble and in need she steps up to the plate in the best way possible – by donating a whopping $50,000 to help out!

The former Real Housewives of New York City star quickly whipped out her checkbook to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy by giving the generous donation to the Red Cross to aide relief efforts RadarOnline.com has confirmed.

"Please give back to the tri-state area that has given so much to us @RedCross simply Txt REDCROSS 90999 to make a $10 donation," the Bethenny talk show host Tweeted to her one-million followers on Friday.

Skinnygirl cocktails matched her donation and donated another $50,000 to the Red Cross and gave 5,000 Skinnygirl On-the-Go Bars to the New Jersey Red Cross to give out free – the equivalent to an additional  $10,000 donation.

"Bethenny is an East Coast girl," a source told Us Weekly, "and hopes the stream of donations from people all over America and the world will reach those affected, save more lives and help build back the East Coast. It is so important in times like this that we come together and help in any way we can."

Along with her husband Jason Hoppy and their daughter Bryn, Bethenny makes New York City her home and encouraged people to give, writing: "every little bit counts."
