Redneck comedian Larry The Cable Guy's catchphrase is "Git-R-Done," and when it comes to losing weight he definitely practices what he preaches!

After once hitting the scale at 282 pounds, the 5'10" country bumpkin from Nebraska has lost a whopping 50 pounds, and the new issue of the National Enquirer has the secret of his impressive slim down.

It's not the first time that Larry, whose real name is Daniel Lawrence Whitney, has undergone a major slim down, having lost 50 pounds in 2008 on the Nutrisystem diet. "But slowly his weight crept back on, and before too long Larry was hitting the 280 mark," an insider told the Enquirer.

“He knew he had to do something, so he went back to Nutrisystem, added intense treadmill workouts and pumped iron. It took about three months, but Larry dropped another 50 – and now he looks great.”

The 49-year-old funny man blamed his weight gain the first time around on his wife, Cara's pregnancy, and her habit of not following through on her cravings. "She'd crave a double cheeseburger, have two bites and then I’d eat the rest,” he joked. “I couldn’t let it go to waste!”

But after they had both lost the baby weight, Larry let his flab creep back due to his love of high calorie comfort food and his weight quickly soared back up to 280 pounds.

"He was soon back to feasting on the fatty foods that helped him balloon up in the first place," said the insider. "It was particularly tough when he was on the road working. The more he missed his family, the more he ate!"

Determined not to let his health fall by the wayside for good, the host of History Channel's Only In America returned to Nutrisystem and took both his pre-packaged meals and his personal trainer on the road with him.

"Wherever they were, the trainer took him to a gym every day, put him through a workout and made sure Larry wasn’t hiding snacks," the source told the Enquirer, adding: “Larry’s grueling regimen included weight training, 50 minutes of cardio early in the day and 50 minutes of cardio mid-day and 50 minutes of cardio at night."
