“When we got married we said that it wasn’t about a certain number, we just know that God is in control of our lives,” Kelly Jo said about their large brood, who live in Tennessee.
“We just say to the Lord, however many children you want to give us just give us the love for them and we would rejoice and be excited for another baby. We are praying for another one if that is what the Lord wants.”
In the clip of this week’s episode the children joke about Kelly Jo’s spending habits, with her daughter saying “Dad makes the money and Mom spends it.”
“We try to live on less to give away more. We leave money from the government to those families that have a true need. We have qualified to receive government aid but we have never accepted it.”
The Bates family has a tree-cutting business that Kelly Jo said is “dangerous but it pays better and it supports our family. We always look to the Lord for our needs. We live frugally and with the help of God we work hard and are very diligent.”
Two back-to-back episodes of United Bates of America air on TLC Monday at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
