Ashton Kutcher has taken the stand in his slain ex-girlfriend’s murder trial. RadarOnline.com can reveal exclusive details on the actor testifying in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday, May 29 in the murder of Ashley Ellerin at the hands of alleged killer Michael Gargiulo.
Kutcher, 41, appeared nervous as he took the stand for 40 minutes, wearing a blue suit and tie.
Kutcher explained how he had been to Ellerin's home one time before the murder.
“I broke up with my girlfriend,” he explained. “I went to a party in December and she told me she was single… we were talking about getting a drink, getting dinner, hanging out that evening.”
He called her around 7:30pm to tell her he was running late. She then called him at 8:24pm to tell him she had just gotten out of the shower.
“I was at my friend’s house,” he explained. “I lost track of time. I probably left at 10pm and realized it was later than I anticipated. I wanted to call her and let her know I was on my way. I called, no answer.”
He continued, “I was letting her know I was on the way and she didn’t answer. I didn’t know if she had left. I didn't want to just to show up so I went home, let my dogs out. I tried from my home phone. I wanted to call again. I didn’t want to be weird and show up late at someone’s house.”
When he showed up to her home, he noticed all of the lights were on.
“I knocked on the front door and there was no answer,” he said. “I knocked again. There was no answer. At this point I assumed she had left for the night. I looked through the window by the front door. Didn’t see anything."
As he was leaving, he looked through her window.
“I didn't really want to be the guy that looks in someone's window,” he said. “When I looked through, it looked like the place was a little bit of a mess, but I knew she was just moving in so I wasn’t really that concerned.”
He continued, “I saw what I thought was red wine spilled on the carpet. But that wasn’t alarming because I went to her house party and it was like a college party. I didn’t think much about it.”

He then left her home.
“I figured I screwed up by showing up too late and she left,” he said.
When he learned about the murder the next day, he “freaked out” because he was at the crime scene.
“My fingerprints are on this door and I was freaking out,” he said. “I told the detective, 'Let me tell you what happened!'"
As RadarOnline.com reported, Kutcher was listed as a potential witness in the murder trial for Ellerin, who was 22 when she was killed.
District Attorney Dan Akemon described the gruesome murder on the first day of trial.
“On Feb. 21, 2001, weeks after Gargiulo was seen trying to enter her apartment, surveying Ashley coming and going, Ashley was found dead,” he said. “Ashley was found stabbed to death in the hallway. She was stabbed over 47 times. Evidence will show she was attacked from behind, cutting her through and through and nearly decapitating her, indicating it was done by a left-handed perpetrator. Gargiulo is left-handed.”
Gargiulo was arrested and charged with murder in 2008 after DNA linked him to the crime.
The trial is expected to last six months.
