Garth Brooks is haunted by a secret dread — the gunman who took his ex-wife hostage in a terrifying ordeal now lives less than 15 miles from his family!

RadarOnline.com has learned Quintine Harper’s last known residence is just minutes away from the home of Brooks’ ex, Sandy Mahl, two of the couple’s three daughters and his two grandkids.

Harper, 40, abducted Mahl from her Oklahoma ranch in 2006, and threatened she’d never see her kids again.

“I don’t know that Garth has ever truly gotten over this,” said a source.

“It’s daunting feeling like you have to look over your shoulder all the time.”

The harrowing drama has left the country star and his entire family with “an uneasiness and sense of fear they live with every day,” according to a source close to Brooks.

Mahl, 53, reportedly received $125 million when the couple divorced in 2001 after a 15-year marriage.

She met Harper in August 2005, and they soon started dating. She told cops Harper had a stash of tapes showing her nude — to use as leverage in case things turned sour.

Harper was living in an apartment above her barn in Owasso, Okla., when bondsmen arrived at the premises looking for him after he failed to show up in court on an embezzlement charge.

Spotting the lawmen, Harper grabbed Mahl at gunpoint and forced her to drive off in an SUV. He was eventually nabbed and charged with felony kidnapping for extortion and served a year in prison.

“The perp handed over the tapes as part of a plea agreement, but both Garth and Sandy fear there are still copies floating around,” the source said.

“Garth knows the man who threatened his family is out there, and that someone could still have those sex tapes of Sandy.”
