Avril Lavigne’s ex-husband Deryck Whibley looked frail, gaunt and sickly as he stepped out in Los Angeles Monday after a monthlong hospital stint he said was the result of years of hard drinking that finally “caught up."

The 34-year-old musician was snapped being upheld by his fiancée Jocelyn Aguilar and an unidentified woman after his release from the facility, in which he was hooked onto an IV drip, and was unconscious for a week.

"I was drinking hard every day,” the Sum 41 frontman wrote on his blog May 16. “Until one night. I was sitting at home, poured myself another drink around midnight and was about to watch a movie when all of a sudden I didn't feel so good.

“If I have one drink the doc’s say I will die … I’m not preaching or anything but just always drink responsibly. I didn’t, and look where that got me.'

A one-time Grammy-nominee, Whibley’s kidneys and liver collapsed when he was taken in by medical officials.

The Ontario, Canada native and Lavigne split in 2009 after three years of marriage.
