Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones are separated, RadarOnline.com has confirmed.
The Basic Instinct star, 68, and Chicago stunner, 43, have been on a "break" for some time, as Douglas took their kids -- Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10, -- overseas to Sardinia without their mother, who has stayed in her native New York.
Insiders tell People, who first reported the story, the stars haven't begun the paperwork process in the split.

They were last snapped together at an event in New York April 22.
The A-list couple have been through a number of trying events in recent years, including Michael's bout with stage IV throat cancer and subsequent chemotherapy; and Zeta-Jones' ongoing treatment for bipolar disorder.
A source told the magazine that "the stress has taken a toll on their marriage," which began in 2000 when the celeb couple tied the knot.
