The royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton was a ratings hit for the 11 -- that's 11 -- TV networks that went live with the event.
From 6 - 7:15 am EDT, an estimated 18.5 million U.S. households were tuned in to watch beautiful Kate become a Princess bride.
That's a significant jump from the 14.2 million households who got up at dawn to watch Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer walk down the aisle. We all know how that worked out!
Charles and Diana married in 1981 after having met only 13 times. The marriage was visibly collapsing by the mid-1980s and the couple separated before the end of the decade amid rumors of their mutual extra-marital affairs. Their divorce was finalized in 1996.
On the upside, the marriage did produce Prince Harry and that new groom, Prince William.
