Legendary music icon David Bowie has died at the age of 69, after an 18-month battle with cancer.
The shocking news was first released on Bowie's social media pages late Sunday night, following the 2016 Golden Globe awards.
"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer," the official statement read. "While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."
Soon after, David's son Duncan confirmed the news via Twitter: "Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for a while. Love to all."
It wasn't long before the world of Hollywood began mourning his loss as well. Many celebrities paid tribute to Bowie — including Kanye West, Madonna, Pharrell Williams, Russell Crowe and more — sharing their utmost condolences after hearing the news.
The "Space Oddity" singer is survived by his model wife Iman, their daughter Alexandria "Lexi" Zahra Jones, and son Duncan, from his first marriage to Angela Bowie.
Bowie's ex has yet to be informed of the news, as she is currently a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother. One spokesperson for the program said Angie would be told of his passing on Monday, off camera.
