Mobster James “Whitey” Bulger’s girlfriend was indicted Thursday by federal prosecutors for conspiracy to harbor and conceal a fugitive.
Catherine Greig, who was living with Bulger in their small Santa Monica, Calif. apartment when he was arrested by the FBI, was arrested the same day and is being charged with helping him hide for the 16 years he was on the run.
She has been in jail since their June arrest. Bulger is charged with 19 murders while he was a mob boss leading the Winter Hill Gang. He has pleaded not guilty.
Greig’s attorney has said that she did not know details about the crimes Bulger allegedly committed when the two went on the lam, and has argued for her release on bail.
