Four months after the house of horrors parents were arrested for torturing and holding their children captive for years, the sister of Louise Turpin has finally decided to speak out.
In a tell-all interview with Oxygen, Teresa Robinette told Soledad O'Brien: "I didn't want people to think I had something to hide. If we didn't come forward, people would have felt like we knew things and we were attempting to cover them up because I'm her sister… But there's no way we would have stood for that. That's why she distanced herself from us."
According to Teresa, her sister Louise began to cut off communication with her through the years. Though they used to video chat with the family often, the chats eventually stopped in 2010. That same year, Louise allegedly cut ties with the church, and investigator believe it was at that time that the abuse against her and David's children began.'
"I don't even know if you can say any of us had a relationship with the children," Teresa continued. "You have to understand, I only met the four oldest children in person. The other children, I only met through video chat."
Louise's brother also spoke in the interview, saying that the horrific mother and her husband, David Turpin, always gave relatives reasons not to visit them.
"Louise would always come up with an excuse that something happened, that she had a bad dream about the flight, one of the kids got sick," added Teresa.
"She made up a big elaborate story about one of the girls who got into trouble with some friends one night, so she and David were aggravated… Everything she told us was a lie."
