Drugs, Cheating & Nasty Fights: Miley & Liam's Volatile Romance Exposed

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's nightmare relationship officially ended with the actor filing for divorce on Wednesday, August 21.
The move followed the "We Can't Stop" singer, 26, flaunting her relationship with Brody Jenner's ex-girlfriend Kaitlynn Carter, 30. The women even had a public pow wow with Cyrus' mother, Tish!
RadarOnline.com confirmed Cyrus and Hemsworth's eight-month marriage split on August 10, and a source exclusively said, the singer “was the one to end it. She said she wanted an open relationship. She wasn’t ready for just one person for forever.”
The source also explained that the actor, 29, wanted kids right away, while Cyrus just wasn’t into the idea.

Teen Romance
Cyrus and Hemsworth first got romantically involved while filming the movie The Last Song together in 2009 when both were teenagers. She told Seventeen magazine that the Australian actor was her "best friend." They reportedly split in 2010 due to her work schedule, but they rekindled quickly later in that year.
More Splits
In November 2010, Cyrus and Hemsworth split up again, but reconciled in April 2011. Liam told Details in Feb. 2012 that Cyrus was making him "really happy."
A Long Engagement
The star-crossed lovers announced their engagement in June 2012 and Cyrus wore a massive diamond ring from her beloved. But at that time, Cyrus, who was just 19, said, "I don't really care about the wedding," and shrugged, "We both want a long engagement." Little did anyone know how long it would take for them to wed!
Cheating?
In February 2013, Cyrus feuded with gossip columnist Perez Hilton, who said she had been spotted out with Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick. Cyrus, still engaged to Hemsworth, denied the report via Twitter, claiming she was never with Westwick.

As Star reported in Feb. 2013, sources said Hemsworth cheated on famous fiancee Cyrus by getting hot and heavy with Mad Men star January Jones at a pre-Oscar party. Relationship wrecker? Cyrus shocked America at the August 2013 VMAs by twerking on Robin Thicke in a nude-colored bodysuit. Her outrageous sex-simulating, tongue-wagging act shocked Hemsworth, as RadarOnline.com reported. "Her VMA performance absolutely mortified him and he couldn’t be more embarrassed. He doesn’t really see anything sexy about what she did on stage," a source told RadarOnline.com at the time. "He doesn’t want to babysit her anymore. He has to move on."
RadarOnline.com readers weren't surprised that after Cyrus' wild behavior, she and The Hunger Games hunk officially called off their engagement in Sept. 2013. Cyrus was naked and crying in the video for her breakup song, "Wrecking Ball."
Acting Out
In Oct. 2013, Cyrus defiantly said after the breakup that "This is the best time of my life." Hemsworth told a reporter there was "nothing to say" about the split. Cyrus raised eyebrows with her pot-smoking ways.
Going Off
In early 2014, Hemsworth was dating actress Nina Dobrev. Miley went on a rant allegedly aimed at her ex Hemsworth during a concert in London. The singer told shocked listeners, addressing a certain somebody about her hit "Wrecking Ball," "every time you get in your car, you're going to hear my f--king song on the f--king radio, you piece of s--t."
New Romance
By the end of 2014, it looked like Cyrus had moved on romantically with Arnold and Maria's handsome actor son, Patrick Schwarzenegger. The two were a cuddling couple, but the young Schwarzenegger was caught with another woman in 2015. "Piley" was over!
New Girl
Cyrus always has the power to shock and in July 2015, she was reportedly in an affair with Victoria's Secret model Stella Maxwell. The gals were spotted kissing, but then Cyrus reconciled with Hemsworth. Fans have speculated that Cyrus' song, "She's Not Him," was about the star leaving Maxwell to get back with the Australian actor.

In October 2016, Cyrus confirmed on Ellen that she and Hemsworth were engaged again. The wild child was determined to stay "clean and sober" for Hemsworth, giving up weed, as sources told RadarOnline.com.
Prenup Problems
According to RadarOnline.com sources, the road to their long-delayed wedding wasn't smooth as Cyrus and Hemsworth fought a bitter prenup battle. An insider said two years ago that Hemsworth thought "it’s only fair he gets half Miley’s fortune if they split up — or at least half what she makes during the marriage." But Cyrus' team was aghast at the idea, the source said. The two hit another bump in the road in summer 2018, calling off their wedding because Cyrus felt she wasn't ready for marriage and kids yet, another spy said.
Tragedy Strikes
Disaster struck for the couple in November 2018, as the Malibu home they'd shared burned down in the California wildfires. A source told RadarOnline.com that it was the mansion where they had originally planned to walk down the aisle. Apparently the trauma of losing their house brought Cyrus and Hemsworth closer, and they finally got married on Dec. 23, 2018.
Different Goals
The pair’s marriage quickly encountered serious problems. As RadarOnline.com reported, the two initially agreed they wanted to start a family. But while the more traditional Hemsworth wanted kids as soon as possible, his younger wife was on an entirely different page. Toward the end of their marriage, an insider said: “He wanted babies, and she just didn’t anymore.”
Irreconcilable Differences
The final nail in the coffin was Cyrus’ desire to not be tied down. The singer “was the one to end it,” a source sad, explaining free-spirited Cyrus “said she wanted an open relationship. She wasn’t ready for just one person for forever.”
New Flame
Cyrus quickly moved on following the announcement she and Hemsworth were done. The star and Brody Jenner’s ex, Kaitlynn Carter, were spotted making out and getting cozy poolside at the Il Sereno resort in Lake Como, Italy, on Friday, Aug. 9.
Hemsworth ‘Heartbroken’
The pair, who were vacationing together, reportedly didn’t seem to care who saw them — and that apparently includes Cyrus’ jilted ex! “Liam’s heartbroken, and his family cannot believe she is flaunting this for the world to see,” the source said. “They think she’s a disgrace.”
Animal Lust
Cyrus and Hemsworth may not have had any children during their short marriage, but they’re still about to get into a custody battle — over their pets, a source told RadarOnline.com. The two shared at least eight dogs, four cats and one pig. They told friends they plan to “coparent” their animals, but a source told RadarOnline.com, “Everyone knows that’s not possible. Miley thinks these animals are all hers, but Liam also adopted two of the dogs on his own.”

According to a RadarOnline.com source, Cyrus was "bored in bed" with Hemsworth before their breakup. The insider revealed the singer told her hunky actor hubby "many times” how she felt. And while he was "willing to change things up by bringing in another partner,” the source said Cyrus, who has said she is attracted to women, “needed more than that.”
Tell All Fail
The singer's husband was stunned after she gave a TMI interview about their unconventional marriage, RadarOnline.com exclusively learned. A Hemsworth insider revealed the actor was angry when he found out Cyrus said she’s “in a hetero relationship” but still “very sexually attracted to women” for an Elle July story. “I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don’t even like that word.”
In the interview, she also said her marriage was “modern,” which implied an open relationship. “Liam realized that he wasn’t getting the respect he wanted from Miley,” the insider explained to RadarOnline.com.
Sad Song
Cyrus released a new emotional song called "Slide Away," which appears to tell a story of a painful breakup and a relationship crumbling. "Move on. we’re not 17/ I’m not who I used to be/ You say that everything changed/ You’re right, we’re grown now," she sang, in an apparent reference to the end of her marriage to Hemsworth. The song also includes a cryptic line about “whiskey and pills” which seems to reference rumors of Hemsworth’s excessive partying.
She Can't Stop
There was more humiliation for Hemsworth when Cyrus and her mother Tish openly had lunch on August 17 with the singer's new love interest Carter. A source told RadarOnline.com, "Tish was hanging onto hopes that she would have a grandbaby and that Liam was the only way that this would happen. Miley told her she needs to let that notion go because she is not getting back together with Liam. It's done. Miley now has her mother's full acceptance and support" for her love affair with Carter.
Leaving Town
After his divorce from Cyrus, Hemsworth plans to stay in his native Australia, a source told RadarOnline.com. “He’ll still come to LA to do business and shoot movies, but this whole experience has really reinforced to Liam that Hollywood’s not for him in the long term,” the insider said.
Legal Details
When Hemsworth officially filed for divorce on August 21, he claimed he'd signed a prenup with Cyrus before their Nashville wedding ceremony. “He wants to put all of this behind him, move on, and find a fresh start,” a source close to the hunk exclusively told RadarOnline.com.
