Princess Kate and Queen Camilla may have played a big part in cutting off former Prince Andrew.

Aug. 6 2026, Published 7:50 p.m. ET

Princess Kate and Queen Camilla have been identified by insiders as the "key figures" behind Andrew Mountbatten‑Windsor's removal from frontline royal life, with the two women said to have helped steer King Charles and Prince William toward stripping Andrew of his titles and pushing him out of Windsor's Royal Lodge in the wake of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

RadarOnline.com can reveal Andrew, 66, formerly Prince Andrew, Duke of York, was first sidelined from official duties in 2022 over his association with Epstein, the convicted s-x offender who died in a US jail in 2019.

Andrew Windsor lost his princely style, dukedom, and senior royal knighthoods.

In late 2025, Buckingham Palace confirmed Charles, 77, had initiated a formal process to remove Andrew's styles, titles and honors, including the designation "prince" and "His Royal Highness", and to require him to vacate Royal Lodge, the grace‑and‑favor home near Windsor Castle he had occupied since 2004.

The disgraced royal was also stripped of his dukedom of York, his earldom of Inverness, his barony of Killyleagh and his senior knighthoods in the Order of the Garter and the Royal Victorian Order.

The King's decision followed renewed scrutiny over Andrew's relationship with Epstein and fresh legal pressure, including his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office earlier this year, after which Charles issued a statement pledging full cooperation with police and insisting: "Let me state clearly: the law must take its course."

Princess Kate and Queen Camilla Drive Downfall, Sources Claim

Princess Kate and Queen Camilla reportedly influenced King Charles and Prince William's decision.

A royal source claimed to Radar in an exclusive interview: "Inside the palace, nobody pretends this was just Charles waking up one morning and acting alone. There was a long period of discussion, and throughout that time Kate and Camilla were consistently making the case that the monarchy could not carry Andrew as a working royal or as 'Prince Andrew' any longer. They were not shouting, but their voices carried a lot of weight.

"People talk about a 'female touch,' and it was applied rather brutally in Andrew's case as Kate and Camilla were the key figures behind and driving forces behind Andrew's downfall."

The insider noted, "Kate and Camilla are never going to eclipse William or Charles in public, but behind the scenes they have become incredibly powerful.

"But when it came to Andrew, their guidance was sought and listened to. Both women are acutely aware of how damaging it would be for William to inherit a monarchy still burdened by Andrew's presence and titles."

Prince William Demands Clean Royal Break

Prince William strongly supported a clean break from his disgraced uncle, sources claimed.

Another source claimed: "William was very clear he did not want to spend the next 20 years dealing with the headache of his uncle's scandals. There was firm pressure from him for a clean break, and Kate backed that up privately.

"Camilla, for her part, has lived through the era when royal reputations were shredded by scandal. She knows that half‑measures don't work. The message from both was essentially: if you're going to do this, do it properly – remove the titles, remove the honors, remove the lodge."

The move to strip Andrew of his princely title and evict him from Royal Lodge was framed by some royal insiders as a "family decision", taken by Charles under the Royal Prerogative but with the support of senior royals including William.

Letters patent issued under the Great Seal of the realm in November 2025 formally revoked Andrew's style of "Royal Highness" and the title "prince", and a notice published in The London Gazette confirmed the annulment of his knighthoods and removal from the registers of the Garter and Royal Victorian orders.

Palace sources noted no prospect of Andrew Windsor returning to public duties.

While Andrew remains eighth in line to the throne – a position which could only be altered by Parliament – sources say there is no prospect of his return to public duties.

A palace insider claimed: "The King was the driving force behind the formal removal of Andrew's titles, but Kate and Camilla were absolutely vital when it came to him deciding how far he could go.

"They are seen by some as the real power behind the throne in this case – and the ones who helped Charles and William accept that the only way to protect the monarchy was to send Andrew into exile."
