Soap star Kristoff St. John was drinking heavily in the days leading up to his sudden death, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned amid suspicions he died of a possible alcohol overdose.
A source close to the Young and the Restless actor revealed to Radar that his loved ones grew worried about him in his final days.
“Towards the end of his life he was drinking heavily,” said the source. “He became aloof and withdrawn.”
According to the insider, the death of St. John’s son, Julian, who committed suicide in 2014, contributed to the actor’s troubles.
“When his son died, he died. He was never the same,” said the source. “He wishes it would have been him.”
The 52-year-old was found dead in his Woodland Hills, Calif. home on Sunday, Feb. 3. An official at the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Radar that he died of a “possible alcohol overdose.”
The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office confirmed to Radar that an autopsy had been completed Monday morning. However, his cause of death is still unknown.
“The medical examiner is requesting additional investigation and laboratory testing,” a medical examiner's official told Radar.
Despite the actor’s hardships, his loved ones claimed that he appeared to be doing better. In August 2018, the soap legend got engaged to Russian model Kseniya Mikhaleva.
“He was so loved by everyone and the fact that he had his fiancée and his dogs gave everyone who knew him a lot of hope,” the source added.
Unfortunately, those close to him who are now reflecting on his death realize there may have been warning signs all along.
“He just went through the motions and he would not let anyone talk to him,” the source continued. “You could see that there was something very different in his eyes. He checked out.”
