Sarah Hyland Admits She Was ‘Contemplating Suicide’ After Failed Kidney Transplant

Sarah Hyland has opened up about the dark days and suicidal thoughts she experienced after her body rejected a kidney her father donated to her in 2012 but had to be removed five years later.
“I was very depressed,” Hyland told Self of doctors taking out the organ in May 2017. “When a family member gives you a second chance at life, and it fails, it almost feels like it's your fault. It's not. But it does.”
When the actress got the chance to have a second operation thanks to her younger sibling, Ian, she began to melt down out of fear.
“For a long time, I was contemplating suicide, because I didn't want to fail my little brother like I failed my dad,” she told the magazine. “I had gone through my whole life of always being a burden, of always having to be looked after, having to be cared for.”
“For anybody that wants to reach out to somebody but doesn't really know how because they're too proud or they think that they'll be looked upon as weak, it's not a shameful thing to say,” Hyland said of going through the hard time. “It’s not a shameful thing to share.”

Unfortunately, Hyland has had multiple issues to deal with over the past years, including 16 surgeries to help with everything from endometriosis to an abdominal hernia.
And, as RadarOnline.com reported, the 28-year-old Modern Family star recently lost her 14-year-old cousin, ninth-grader Trevor Canaday, when he was killed by an alleged drunk driver in Nebraska.
