Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland is demanding justice for the alleged drunk driver who killed her teen cousin over the weekend in a horrific car crash. Now, the suspect’s mother is barking back, claiming she doesn’t even know who the star is.

RadarOnline.com exclusively spoke to Diane Eggeling on Monday, hours after her son, Jeffrey Eggeling, was arrested for driving drunk and fleeing the scene of the crime that killed Hyland’s cousin, Trevor Canaday, 14. The confused mother said she heard about the accident but had no clue the victim was related to the television star.

“I don’t know who’s saying what,” Diane told RadarOnline.com. “She’s related to the victim how? Who is this actress?”

Hyland slammed Jeffrey, 36, for allegedly driving drunk and being convicted of two previous DUIs. Ariel Winter’s co-star said she hopes he will be locked up behind bars for life.

As RadarOnline.com readers know, the suspected killer had been arrested multiple times in Nebraska for driving under the influence. Despite shocking police reports obtained by RadarOnline.com proving this, Jeffrey’s mom refused to discuss her son’s criminal record.

“I’m not going to talk about my son. I’m just saying he was uninjured. I believe he’s ok,” Diane Eggeling said.

The mom added that despite Hyland has the right to speak out.

“People will say what they do in times of distress and anger and sorrow. I guess it’s first amendment. She can say what she wants,” Diane Eggeling continued.

Canaday was a ninth grader in Nebraska. His father was also in the car at the time of the crash and was rushed to the hospital for injuries.
