March 2 2016, Updated 3:21 p.m. ET
Kim Richards is finally ready to talk about her sad goodbye to ex-husband and close friend Monty Brinson, who tragically passed away on January 24 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was just 58-years-old.
The reality star sat down with Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, recounting the last moments she spent by Brinson's side before he drew his last breath.
"He was glad that he was going first cause he didn't think he could bear it if it were me and then he had to be left here," she said of his dwindling health.
Richards was understandably emotional as she described her final moments with Brinson.
"I said, 'I love you,' and then I felt him just kind of leave, and it was shocking," she said. "I just didn't expect it."
"Yesterday I said goodbye to best the friend I've ever had in my life," Richards, 51, later wrote on Instagram of her loving ex.

Brinson was married to Richards from 1985-88. Though they split, they maintained a close friendship, even attending family events together in recent years.
Despite losing one of her biggest sobriety supporters, Richards claims she's been able to stay away from substance abuse after her arrests last year, telling ET: "My recovery is going amazing."
The reality star is set to make a guest appearance on her old show, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and has snagged a spot on the dramatic Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition.
