Kanye West might be famous for his “Kanyeisms,” but his diva behavior during a recent health scare at an Australian hospital might just outdo all of his other antics.
Belinda James was scheduled to have an MRI at Melbourne, Australia’s Epworth Hospital at the same time that the “Yeezus” rapper was rushed into the emergency room. But the mom-of-two tells Woman’s Day that not everything went according to plan – all for the sake of West’s privacy.
“At around 2pm on Wednesday I was prepped and waiting to go in for my MRI when his doctor, followed by security came into the MRI ward and demanded that everyone be cleared out,” James told the magazine.
James also said that West’s doctor told the hospital staff that her patient “would not be following protocol or filling out forms in the main area.”
But the doctor’s insistence on West receiving extra special treatment meant that others were pushed aside, resulting in a “flustered” hospital staff.
“There were six security guards adding to the pressure and despite them saying they had rules to follow, his doctor was not taking no for an answer.
“I had no idea who they were talking about but I knew it was someone big because of all of the security and commotion.”
James would soon find out that it was, in fact, the “Champion” rapper with wife Kim Kardashian. But as West’s doctor demanded other patients be removed, James’ doctor insisted she finish her MRI. The Australian resident said that everyone had cleared out by the time she had finished her scan. But hospital staff and West’s doctor kept bickering about the “privacy situation.”
“Clearly they were not happy with my position because the next minute I was wheeled out in front of the reception desk – so much for my privacy!
“That’s when the doors opened and a stretcher was wheeled in by six security guards in a row shielding him. It was a pretty surreal sight – Kanye was lying on the trolley with something white covering the lower part of his face.”
James admits that the rapper looked “disoriented” and “anxious,” but was shocked to hear he performed later that night.
“I was shocked! How on earth had he managed that? I could not believe that he had picked himself up from the dire state I had seen him in just hours earlier,” she told Woman’s Day. “How had he pulled himself together so soon?”
Despite making a full recovery in time for his concert, a source told the magazine that Kardashian looked a little worse for wear.
“Kim was overheard telling people they thought he may be coming down with the flu, but you could tell she seemed really worried and it was a lot more than that,” the source revealed.
Although James doesn’t blame the hospital for how she was treated, she does feel that no one should be considered more important than anyone else.
“I believe everyone should be treated equally – I think most Australians feel the same way. Whoever he is, it doesn’t give him the right to take the place of someone else who is worse off."
