Jay Z and Beyonce infamously ditched Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s over-the-top Italian nuptials in May— and now a juicy report is offering a new explanation why.

According to the NY Post’s Page Six, the “Drunk in Love” singer, 32, refused to play second fiddle to the reality star bride, 33, during the highly-publicized festivities.

“Beyonce wasn’t going to allow a Kardashian to socially climb her,” an insider told the column. “They are guarding like hell their status.”

But the international pop star wasn’t the only one throwing shade at the attention-seeking couple.

“Jay didn’t want Kanye with Kim- He thinks it’s bad for business,” the insider said of the frequent music collaborators, who toured the world together after releasing their joint 2011 album, Watch the Throne. “I think Jay lost a little respect for Kanye there.”

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Beyonce dreaded the thought of attending the lavish, made-for-reality TV wedding of her 44-year-old husband’s best friend.

“Jay and Beyoncé’s wedding was shrouded in secrecy and extreme lengths were made to make sure their wedding was an intimate affair for friends and family, only,” an insider told RadarOnline.com in March. “This will be the complete opposite. She thinks it’s just tacky.”

Though the couple was expected to attend the nuptials until the very last minute, they ultimately skipped the festivities for a quiet weekend in New York’s Hamptons instead.
