Amanda Bynes, appearing in Manhattan Criminal Court Friday following her arrest in New York City Thursday evening, said police "improperly arrested" her for throwing a bong out the window, as she claims it was actually a vase.
Bynes was subsequently released on $1,000 bail following the hearing.
According to reports, an arresting officer is quoted as saying in the criminal complaint he observed the actress "grab said bong, run to the westbound-facing window, and throw it out the window where numerous pedestrians were walking on the 8 Avenue and West 47 Street sidewalks below."
Bynes, insiders told the NY Post, said arresting officers took to "roughing her up" in the apprehension.

The ex-Nickelodeon star -- still clad in an over-the-top blonde wig -- barked at photographers earlier Friday as they snapped away shots of her while she was in handcuffs.
"Can I ask you something?" she told reporters and shutterbugs at the scene. "No photographers in there -- is that OK? Sir! Sir! I'm asking you, I don't want any pictures, sir."
As we previously reported, police said they initially responded to a report of a disorderly person -- a caller told authorities Bynes was rolling a marijuana joint, and smoking it -- in the lobby of The Biltmore on W. 47th St.
Officers said when arrived at her midtown apartment on Thursday night around 7:40 p.m., and confronted her about the reports, Bynes threw a foot-long bong out the window as they watched. She was taken to the Roosevelt Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation afterwards, officials said.
As RadarOnline.com was first to report, Bynes' escalating disturbing behavior has been fueled by drugs with the former star smoking a large amount of pot, but according to one source, “It makes her more paranoid instead of mellowing her out."
