Katie Holmes Breaks Away From Scientology By Returning To Her Catholic Roots

After six years under the iron grip of Scientology, Katie Holmes has made a public statement of returning to her Catholic roots by registering as a parishioner of the Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York City.

"Everyone is thrilled to have Katie join us," a member of the church's choir told the Huffington Post. "She has not yet attended a service, but when she does she will be welcomed with open arms."

Located on on 16th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues in her newly adopted home city, the church is known for its open minded attitude and welcoming of many gay and lesbian Catholics.

The church's website proclaims that it strives to create a community "where seekers and their questions are welcomed, where injustice is challenged, where the poor, the alienated and marginalized find a home, and where people are refreshed, reconciled and renewed."

The inclusive attitude will no doubt be a refreshing change to the constricts of the Church of Scientology that had controlled the lives of the former Dawson's Creek star and her six-year-old daughter Suri during her marriage to Tom Cruise.

The couple reached a divorce settlement on July 9, and as RadarOnline.com exclusively reported first, she will have primary custody of Suri, but with generous visitation rights granted to Tom.

As a child, Katie was baptized a Roman Catholic and attended Christ The King Church in Toledo, Ohio, where she grew up so the return to her faith is a natural move since her break up from the Mission Impossible star.
