Redmond O'Neal was pressured by executives at Oprah Winfrey's OWN network to participate in his father Ryan O'Neal and his sister Tatum O'Neal's reality show, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.
Redmond, who has publicly battled substance abuse problems for years, is currently in jail in Los Angeles facing felony heroin and firearms charges.
A source tells RadarOnline.com that Redmond begun getting calls from the executives at OWN before shooting started on Ryan & Tatum: The O'Neals.
However, the source says Redmond is fiercely private and "wanted nothing to do with the show. He received calls for months asking him to participate, and this was done by Oprah's executives.
"Redmond's refusal to participate in the show definitely caused friction between his father and him. But, Redmond held his ground, and absolutely refused.
"He made it very clear to producers, and his family, that he didn't want anything to do with participating in a reality show. Redmond didn't want to even appear in the background of any of the shots when they were filming," a source close to the situation tells RadarOnline.com.
Ryan & Tatum: The O’Neals airs Sundays at 10/9c on OWN.
