HERE'S JOHNNY Travolta Of all the celebrities in attendance at last night's premiere of Hairspray, it was that fetching Xenu-ist Katie Holmes who garnered most of the onlookers' attention. Not to be entirely outdone, however, puffy fellow Scientologist John Travolta, who arrived with wife Kelly Preston in tow, mingled with the crowd and drew screams from admiring fans across the street. Questioned, perhaps jokingly, about whether he watches his diet, the cross-dressing star quipped, "I wish. I had a love affair with a pizza last night at four in the morning." Preston went further: "New York pizza."

Other guests included Edie Falco, Liza Minnelli, John Waters, and the show's hunky young star, Zac Efron, who arrived in time to expound on the art of onstage hookups: "I think people make such a big deal out of kissing, but it's natural. That's why people do it. We love to kiss. And I'm no different. I think it was fun, and, yeah, natural."

Enter Paula Abdul. The oft loopy American Idol host and Bravo star arrived at the very last minute with her restaurateur boyfriend J.T. Torregiani, creating the usual media frenzy and punctuating the night with trademark absurdist airs—no doubt doing John Waters and his original cast proud.
