The shocking story of the California house of horrors just keeps getting creepier as new details emerge.
Just in time for David and Louisa Turpin’s first court appearance, NBC News has released a shocking report detailing the horrific lives of the 13 Turpin children.
A law enforcement official told the outlet that Louisa and David Turpin’s kids were only allowed to eat once a day – and shower twice a year!
Police found them when one of the girls escaped and called 911. Her siblings were found chained to the furniture, inside the home that was covered in urine and filth. According to investigators, the kids looked malnourished, pale, and extremely dirty at the time of their rescue.
All 13 of them are currently getting physical and psychiatric treatment at local hospitals, according to NBC.
“They were just like any ordinary family,” said David Turpin’s 81-year-old mother, Betty, to the outlet. “And they had such good relationships. I’m not just saying this stuff. These kids — we were amazed. They were ‘sweetie’ this and ‘sweetie’ that to each other.”
“It’s hard to believe all of this,” she previously told Southern California News Group. “Over the years, the Lord knows what happened.”
David and Louise have been arrested and are being held on $9 million bail. They are expected to appear in court later today.
