RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton don't exactly get along despite their attempts at very public displays of friendship.

"The palace was hoping that Kate and Meghan would become best friends but so far that hasn't happened," an insider noted.

"Kate is not especially warm and doesn't like being around people she doesn't know," explained the insider. "She can come across as a little cold and she believes royals should be detached and above regular people."

Unfortunately, Prince Harry's new American bride has the exact opposite sensibilities!

"She likes to hug and kiss and touch," the insider told RadarOnline.com. "She likes to get down on her knees when talking with children. She loves doing royal walkabouts and meeting the public. She is very much in the Princess Diana mold of royals."

Regardless of their different approaches, the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge recently did their best to appear like BFFs when they went to Wimbledon tennis matches in each other's company.

"The palace was thrilled these two attended Wimbledon together and encouraged Harry and William not to go with them," revealed the insider. "They want the public to see Meghan and Kate as friends, and they hope that one day it will become true."

"Expect to see a lot more arranged public events of the two of them together," added the source.

While at Wimbledon, Meghan, 36, was trying hard to appear humble and win over reserved Kate, also 36.

"The afternoon when great — they both got along and Meghan was very deferential to Kate," the insider told RadarOnline.com. "She even walked behind her, which Kate liked."

The biggest hurtle the two face in their efforts to grow closer, said the insider, is that they really have nothing in common.

"They don't even like similar music or movies," said the source, noting, "The palace hopes this will change when Meghan has a baby, so they can talk kids together."

In the meantime, Meghan needs to tread carefully and continue flattering Prince William's wife.

"Having Kate as an enemy isn't smart," said the insider. "Kate doesn't trust people outside her family. It will be almost impossible for Meghan to break into this circle."
