Even in her early teens, Kim Kardashian was wildly image-conscious, wanting to get a nose job and always dieting, her childhood friend Nikki Lund says.
Even in her early teens, Kim Kardashian was wildly image-conscious, wanting to get a nose job and always dieting, her childhood friend Nikki Lund says. In this 1992 shot, the superstar-in-training yuks it up with stepdad Bruce Jenner, sister Kourtney and now-Tila Tequila ex Courtenay Semel.
Lund, a fashion designer told Heat magazine, that Kim (top-right in this family shot) "was always saying her nose wasn't perfect" -- something which surprised her of the young beauty. "I thought she was nuts," Lund said. "Every girl has something they don't like."
Here's Kim at 13 with another star-to-be in Nicole Richie. Lund said that at one point, a teen Kim confided to her, "I went to a plastic surgeon to see if I could get it corrected and he said he wouldn't do it, because I didn't need it."
Lund, grade school pals with Kim since the age of 8, remembered the socialite (at the bottom of this family shot) as "the sweetest girl" growing up.
Kim "started to become more aware of ourselves at the age of 13," like many girls of that age, which manifested in a series of fad diets they tried, according to Lund. This 2006 shot shows Kim before her rocket ride to fame, alongside Paris Hilton, whose popularity was at a peak at that time.
Lund recalled all of the diets she and Kim (left) gave a try: "We began wearing make-up and started dieting: It was mostly the Atkins and the South Beach Diet; we did the Cabbage Soup Diet and we'd be there boiling great big vats of cabbage; We were like, "Yes, we're going to be thin."'
While Kim struggled with her nose, Lund said that one physical feature the Bound 2 beauty (seen here in 2006) has always been comfortable with was her world-famous derriere, as she was a big fan of Jennifer Lopez.
Lund said that living in Los Angeles around the show business community likely gave Kim (seen here in 2006) the image-driven mentality that she eventually mastered.
She remembered, "There was a lot of pressure ... and it does trickle down to the kids -- here we grew up, it was different to everyone else."
While Kim and Paris Hilton, seen together in 2006, had a famous falling-out, they seem to be on better terms last month, when Kim wished her one-time BFF a happy birthday.
Kim's always denied ever having had a nose job, which has extra context now considering her past complex abut it. Here's the star in 2006.
Kim, at a Hollywood party in 2007, was on the fast track to success with her Ray J sex tape, and later that year, the debut of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Have her looks changed with her fame?
Some would say Kim's looks have drastically morphed, as she's a vision of cosmetic perfection in this shot from last month's Brit Awards.
And while Kim nearly broke the Internet with her switch to blonde earlier this month, it's clear she's always been a work in progress -- and a beauty at every stage.
