Symonds, who has since been dubbed the "professional mistress," has said she had a relationship with Ramsay, 49, on and off for seven years. During that time, she claimed, the chef often snorted "poppers" – alkyl nitrates – before their sexual encounters. (Ramsay previously denied the affair.)

"He's already a hyper person but it seemed like he wanted the added illusion of what poppers do," she told Radar. "I didn't think he needed them or saw the effect of them. They smelled disgusting – you inhale them. It smelled like nail polish remover to be honest. I just pretended to do them. He would travel with them sometimes and when he came to LA he would have them with him and he put in he fridge to keep them cool."

Back when Symonds first met Ramsay, he was definitely not the bombastic, bullying chef on television today.

"When I met him in 2001 he was quite a soft, sensitive and caring person but toward the end, I think the fame and having so much on his plate made him hyper – I guess I was a bit of collateral damage but I saw the change in his attitude towards people," she said.

By 2008, the Mistresses Anonymous founder said, Ramsay became "obsessed" with different kinds of sex and eventually became dismissive when she chose not to deliver.

"Using the poppers, asking me to find a girl for a threesome…Asking to find a certain type of girl online for him to look at and, of course, the anal stuff," she claimed.

Symonds eventually told the story of their affair to News of the World — a newspaper in the UK that closed down in 2011. "I was starting to feel cheap and that if I couldn't or wouldn't provide him with all of this stuff, then he was no longer interested in me," she told Radar.

Symonds said the writing was on the wall when she caught the TV star in a lie. "When I was living in London we had this romantic night planned but he rang up and said he couldn't do that because his daughter, Tilly, was taken ill. And so a friend of mine saw him out in Nobu later that night and I thought, 'Gosh, he would just dismiss me. I thought we had plans!"' she claimed. "So we had no respect for each other at the end."

As for the title of her book, she said, "'Flash Gordon' was a term that I got used to because it was quick, in and out, 'See you when I can,' 'Just want a bit of sex' and 'I'll call you.'"

Symonds believes that Ramsay went astray because of his growing sexual appetite, stress and paranoia.

"Sexually he would say his wife Tana wasn't that adventurous…" she said, and work pressures were taking their toll. "He thought he couldn't trust people and he would talk about certain deals. He always thought people were trying to take advantage of him for money."

Ramsay's rep refused to comment when Symonds' story surfaced in 2008. But the chef later denied the affair at a live cooking demonstration at the BBC's Good Food Show in Birmingham.
