Worst New Year’s Eve Ever! Celebrities Who Began The Year Out Wrong

Celebrities enjoy whirlwind trips, lavish parties and other festivities over New Year’s Eve and beyond, but not all of Hollywood’s biggest names are always so lucky when it comes to kicking off a brand new year. Click through RadarOnline.com’s gallery to see what trouble beset everyone from Mariah Carey and Britney Spears to Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff before and after the New Year’s Eve clock counted down.
Mariah Carey suffered a disaster and technical difficulties in front of millions of people when she awkwardly lip-synched before eventually giving up and walking off the stage during her unforgettably bad performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve program to ring in 2017.
The brave — and newly skinny! — songbird is going to try her luck again when she heads back to give the program another go and say hello to 2018.
Don Lemon had a very happy New Year when he headed to New Orleans to cover the end-of-2016 festivities for CNN. Unfortunately, he started doing shots a little too early, and after too much liquid cheer he got his ear pierced on live TV!
Luann Lesseps married Tom D’Agostino on Dec. 31, 2016, which led to her officially losing her title as countess. Unfortunately, their romantic New Year’s Eve nuptials quickly soured, and, just eight months later, the two announced they were divorcing.
Britney Spears shocked fans and family when she had a shotgun Vegas wedding with her friend Jason Alexander on New Year’s Eve in 2004.
"She just came out and asked me," Alexander once recalled of their ill-advised ceremony. "She was like, 'Well, let's get married.' And I was like, 'Sure. You know, let's do this.'" They newlyweds’ doomed union lasted a mere 55 hours.
Hilary Duff announced her divorce from retired NHL player Mike Comrie in the first days of 2014.
Duff and Comrie finalized their divorce over two years later, in 2016. "Mike and I were very in love when we met. We both really wanted to get married. I'd been working since the age of 11 or 12, so making that choice at a young age seemed right for me,” said Duff, who has remained friendly with Comrie. "Maybe it wasn't, but we spent the majority of our time together really happy."
In January 2007, Lindsay Lohan, then 21, entered rehab for the first — but not last — time. “It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs,” she confessed that year, which officially kicked off her downward spiral. “Recently, I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed. I broke the law, and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case.”
Since then, Lohan has endured multiple arrests, rehab visits and other legal and financial issues.
In January 2007, Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz famously announced their split after four years of dating.
“It has always been our preference not to comment on the status of our relationship, but, out of respect for the time we’ve spent together, we feel compelled to do so now,” Diaz and Timberlake said in a statement. “We have, in fact, ended our romantic relationship, and have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another.” We pay for juicy info!
