Zayn Malik has been struggling with “personal demons” for years – including severe drug addiction which sources believe led to his altercation with his girlfriend Gigi Hadid’s mom Yolanda.
An insider tells RadarOnline.com, “Zayn has had personal demons for some time. Substance abuse — specifically marijuana and cocaine — and booze. At the same time, he suffers from anxiety and struggled with fame. When all these are mixed together, it is a recipe for disaster. He is known to have acted out, constantly – and is erratic.”
“He would get so nervous before any major commitment, he would smoke himself into oblivion. At one instance, in 2017, he had to be propped up at an event he was so wasted.”
Sources say Gigi and her family have tried to help Zayn with his issues over the years.
“That said, Yolanda and the family have been very supportive of Zayn and those ‘demons.’ From a very early age, he was the rogue and reengage of One Direction. The partying, mixed with the taste of celebrity, was a horrible combination. He cheated on his former fiancé, Perrie; Gigi knew that and knew he was a serial cheater, but together thought they could tame him,” the source added.
“The Hadid family hoped when he and Gigi welcome Khai to the world, he would settle down. He didn’t — or perhaps, couldn’t. It’s a very sad scenario.”
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Yolanda accuses Zayn of striking her inside the apartment he shares with her daughter. She is debating on whether to file a police report at the moment but has yet to call up authorities.
Zayn denies ever striking Yolanda. "I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private," he said in his first statement.
The singer also accused Yolanda of leaking the story to the press despite his wishes to keep the dispute private.
