UFC star Cain Velasquez was arrested and booked on an attempted murder charge following a recent shooting that left one man seriously injured.
According to TMZ, the San Jose Police Department revealed to the outlet that the 39-year-old mixed martial arts legend was reportedly involved in a shooting that took place near a San Jose high school at approximately 3 PM Monday afternoon.
The shooting victim was reportedly shot at least once at a highway intersection and was subsequently transported to a hospital and admitted for non-life-threatening injuries.
Velasquez was arrested for his suspected involvement in the shooting and was charged with attempted murder. He is being kept without bail until his court date scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
Before this incident, Velasquez made a name for himself in the UFC octagon as a two-time heavyweight champion. However, following a 26-second knockout loss in February 2019, the former MMA legend quit the sport seemingly for good and started participating in the WWE.
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Velasquez is just the latest UFC legend to have a run-in with the law.
In October, former UFC champion Chuck Liddell was taken into custody in Los Angeles following an alleged domestic violence dispute with his wife, although he was quickly released after posting the issued $20,000 bail.
"Upon arrival deputies determined Chuck Liddell and his wife had been involved in a physical altercation," the Los Angeles sheriff's department claimed at the time. "Mr. Liddell was arrested for domestic battery."
After being released from custody, Liddell took to social media to share his side of the story, claiming he was actually the victim in the domestic dispute.
"Last night, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputies who responded were professional," Liddell wrote. "While the information about this case will be revealed in due course, I believe it is important to convey and clarify a few facts about the situation."
"I was the victim of the incident last night at our family home, as details of the case will reveal," he continued. "The deputies informed me that my wife would be arrested, as I did not respond to her assault while I sustained bruising and lacerations. I volunteered to go in her place."
Just days later, Liddell filed for divorce from his wife.
As for Velasquez, the San Jose Police Department has since confirmed that he was the suspect arrested following the shooting Monday afternoon before adding that "the motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation at this time.”
