Joran van der Sloot is a sick individual, according to his own mother, who went off on her son following his arrest in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores, RadarOnline.com can reveal.
The disturbed killer is also known for murdering Natalee Holloway in 2005, during the 18-year-old's high school graduation trip in Aruba.
'My Son Is Sick in the Head'

Joran van der Sloot is rotting behind bars for the murder of Stephany Flores.
"My son is sick in his head," Anita van der Sloot revealed, per De Telegraaf in a resurfaced interview. Anita had also admitted she knew something wasn't right with her son, especially when it came to the death of Holloway.
Before his 2023 confession, Joran had shared several different stories about how the high school graduate died, including that it was an accident. Eventually, he claimed his confessions were fake.
"Maybe he missed a chance to become an actor," Anita said at the time. "Maybe that should've been a role in his life. I really don't know. I can hardly believe that he can … fake this." Joran's mother also acknowledged he was mentally ill.
Joran had claimed he was left fuming after his attempts to seduce Holloway were rejected while on a walk on a beach in Aruba.
The then-17-year-old claimed he had brutally beaten the young woman after she kneed him in the crotch.
Sick Killer Shares Details on Natalee Holloway's Death

Joran van der Sloot also admitted to killing Holloway.
After kicking Holloway "extremely hard" in the face, he noticed a "huge" cinder block lying in the sand, and recalled, "I take this and uh, yeah, I smash her head in with it completely. Uh, yeah, her face basically, you know, uh, collapses in."
The sick killer's confession was detailed in court documents after he pleaded guilty to extorting and defrauding Holloway’s family. Holloway was legally declared dead in 2012. Her body was never found.
Joran is currently serving 28 years at Challapalca, a prison in Peru, after killing Flores on May 30, 2010. The two had met in a casino.
Before he was convicted, Joran's mom had raged in the interview, "If he killed Stephany, he'll have to pay the price. I won't visit him in his cell, I cannot embrace him."
Joran van der Sloot's Suicide Attempt

He received a 28-year sentenced for murdering Flores in Peru.
According to Anita, Joran had called her before Flores was murdered, and had displayed signs his mental health was faltering.
"He said he was being followed," Anita recalled. "He had been arrested together with a girl and robbed. He was not making sense."
"I can't cry for Joran as I did for Paul," she added, referring to her late husband. "I hope that he gets psychological help."
It doesn't seem Joran has improved, as he reportedly attempted to take his own life in December 2025 after he was discovered with a blanket around his neck.
The now 38-year-old had branded Challapalca "the toughest prison in the world," following the suicide attempt.

Joran van der Sloot reportedly attempted to take his own life behind bars.
"Every day I see that the situation is getting worse for us inmates," the murderer whined at the time. "You can't be with your family, you can't touch them or hug them."
