Meghan Markle tried to date another British hunk years before she settled down with Prince Harry.
An old friend of Harry’s now-wife, Lizzie Cundy, made the shocking revelation to Grazia.
Cundy told the outlet she tried to set up the 39-year-old Markle with the UK soccer player Ashley Cole in 2013.
She told the outlet, “Meghan said she loved London, and would love an English boyfriend, so I went through my phone to see who I knew that might be a good fit.”
“I tried to find her a boyfriend - Ashley Cole wasn’t so keen - but I did try to fix her up, which is funny looking back,” she added.
Cundy said she tried her hardest to get Cole into Markle but he wasn’t feeling it. However, she said it was clear why Prince Harry fell in love with her.
She said Markle, “wanted fame and she was open about that. She has that sparkle, that magic. But I don’t think she knew how hard it was going to be. I think she thought it would be more glamorous, but fame is hard work.”
“Personally I don’t think they’ve gone around things the right way, but if I saw her today, I’d give her a big hug. I’m happy that they’re happy,” Cundy added.
Cundy no longer speaks to Markle but said she isn't upset about it. She told Grazia, "People ask If I’m upset to go from friendship to silence, but I understand. It’s a different world going from celebrity to royalty, and a whole different life. So I get it. I wasn’t in any way upset."
Months after Markle's friend tried to set her up the actress met her future husband at a party. The rest is history for the two.
The couple recently announced the birth of their second child a daughter name Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.
The two are still holed up in a $14 million mansion in Santa Barbara. The former Royals are busy working on their new projects with Netflix and Oprah.
