Former NASCAR driver Candace Muzny was found dead in her home, one month after she was arrested for assaulting a manicurist and a police officer.
Police found Muzny, 43, unconscious inside her Ski Island home near Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Monday, February 17, according to various outlets.
Though they initially saw the death as suspicious, the medical examiner’s office determined Muzny's cause of death as accidental drowning, according to KFOR.
Muzny’s assault arrest took place in January. At the time, she was accused of slapping one nail salon worker and punching and threatening another with a pocket knife after she was angered by them speaking Vietnamese instead of English in her presence. She was also arrested for assault and battery on a police officer after she allegedly struck an officer with a pocket knife as he tried to take her into custody, the Associated Press reported.
In an interview with Heavy.com later that month, she admitted she “backhanded” the nail technician because “I asked her three times to stop speaking Vietnamese to me. I was paying with the American dollar.”
Muzny was released from Oklahoma County jail soon after her arrest on $20,000 bail. Formal charges were reportedly not filed.
Muzny was a well-known competitor in the NASCAR Late Model Divisions and NASCAR K&N Pro Series. She also participated in the 2007 Toyota All-Star Showdown, the 2007 Last Chance Open and in the 2009 Last Chance Open.
