“Our birth plan through this whole pregnancy was that we would deliver at a birthing suite at the hospital with a midwife there,” Jessa, 26, says in a newly-released clip from the TLC show. “However, the morning that my water broke was the morning that my midwife had left town for a week.”
Jessa was expected to give birth in June, but her water unexpectedly broke on May 26 which she was at home with her hubby.
“I was not expecting to go early,” she said. “We thought we had two weeks left.”
As Jessa went into labor, she called a different midwife to come help delivery little Ivy. Jessa laid on her couch as the midwife placed what looked like a pet pee pad under her so Ivy could land smoothly. Moments later, the baby girl was born.
After giving birth, Jessa — who is also a mom to sons Spurgeon Elliot, 3, and Henry Wilberforce, 2 — continued bleeding, which prompted her worried family to rush her to the hospital for treatment. She is now doing well.
