Queer Eye star Tan France almost attempted suicide by driving off of a bridge during a battle with depression, RadarOnline.com has learned.
Years before he was dishing out expert fashion advice on television, Tan, 36, revealed in his upcoming memoir that he struggled with suicidal thoughts while living in Utah and working three jobs.
“The truth is, I was starting to feel depressed, which I had never felt before,” Tan wrote in Naturally Tan, out June 4. “I had been blue, but this was different.”
The fashion expert admitted that he didn’t want to get out of bed. He was “even miserable” with his husband, Rob France.
“For a month, all I wanted was to end it,” Tan wrote.
The Queer Eye star then described a horrific experience that occurred on “one of the worst days.” While driving home, Tan called his husband and told him, “I want to drive off this bridge, and I need you to talk me out of it.”
Luckily, Tan said his supportive husband was able to talk him out of the terrifying experience. At the time, Tan admitted he placed “self-imposed pressure” on himself.
