Zac Efron is set to portray Ted Bundy in a new upcoming Netflix movie, but the mother of one of the serial killer’s victims worries the project could be misguided.

In an emotional phone call, Vivian Winters, mother of Susan Rancourt, who was murdered at the age of 18 by Bundy in 1974, told RadarOnline.com she hopes the focus of the upcoming film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is on remembering the innocent lives lost — not Bundy.

“I have heard little snippets that the movie is glorifying him and I hope that isn’t so,” Winters told RadarOnline.com. “I don’t think that was the intent and I have not seen the movie. It’s the girls, the victims, who I want to glorify.”

“They did not invite him into their lives,” she continued. “The worst thing most of them did was to try and do a good thing – they offered him help. And it turned out to be the worst mistake they made in their lives.”

As RadarOnline.com reported, Bundy confessed to butchering more than 30 young women during a bloody reign of terror that finally ended in 1978 when he was caught following two prison escapes. He was put to death almost 11 years later.

“His life does not need to be glorified,” said 86-year-old Winters, noting, “My fear is that there have been and maybe will be copycat personalities.”

Shockingly, she seemed to cut Bundy some slack and wondered what would have happened if he had received help.

“I’m sorry he led the life he did, because he could have contributed more if it had been recognized early on that he had a mental disorder,” she said.

Still, Rancourt’s mom refused to completely let Bundy off the hook.

“The memories that I have of Susan are so wonderful,” she said. “I can’t let him take away any part of that.”
