Jill Duggar paid tribute to her husband Derick Dillard's brave mom Cathy by wishing her a happy birthday. On Sunday, January 6, Jill posted a selfie on Instagram of herself and cancer survivor Cathy sitting in chairs and getting pedicures at a nail salon.
Cathy, who had suffered from Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, looked thin and frail but sported a cute short haircut and a smile, appearing to be having a great time on her special day. Jill, 27, wrote as a caption, "Happy Birthday Mima (“mee-muh”)!! We love you! ❤️ #mil #mom #grandma @cldilla ?????."
Fans quickly responded, with one gushing, "Awe..she looks great! I’m glad she’s healthy again?." Another wrote, "Derek’s mom is looking so good! ?. "And a third follower noted, "So happy she recovered health wise ?." As RadarOnline.com readers know, Jill and Derick found out just two weeks after their engagement that Cathy had cancer Back in 2014, when Jill and Derick, 29, got married, they were overjoyed that Cathy was able to make it to the wedding in a wheelchair.
While later expecting her first son with Derick, Jill told the 19 Kids and Counting cameras, "It is hard for me to see Derick’s mom go through these health problems, and yet I know she’s very strong and has lots of people praying for her." Cathy said she was getting stem cell transplants during her cancer fight.
In 2015, Derick said that "looking forwardto her first grandchild definitely gives her some incentive to get better.” The next year, the Duggar family blog announced that Cathy was cancer-free.
Cathy told KETV about her ordeal, in which she got treatment in Nebraska, "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. I knew I wasn’t going to die, but I didn’t know how close I would come."
She underwent grueling chemotherapy, but as Jill's new IG photo shows, Cathy now looks healthy and excited to be spending time with family on her birthday!
