Michelle Obama shocked her audience during a talk in NYC to promote her new memoir 'Becoming'.
And she made her views clear about the 'lean-in' movement.
The 54-year-old mother-of-two told her audience: "You can't always lean in, because sometimes that s**t doesn't work all the time."
The former First Lady continued her arena tour to promote her memoir when she visited Brooklyn, where thousands were in attendance at the Barclays Center.
Obama talked about various topics including women's ability to maintain equal marriage while climbing the corporate ladder.
And she kept it real whether women can experience equality in both their marriage and the workplace.
Describing it as 'the whole' she said: "So, you can have it all.
"Nope, not at the same time.
"That's a lie. And it's not always enough to lean in, because that s*** doesn't work all the time."
'Lean in' is the phrase that was made popular by Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg.
Her self-titled book was a best seller whose aim was to empower women in the workplace.
The book ignited a discussion about the challenges faced by women wit regard to pay and discrimination.
Michelle Obama's use of the four-letter word 's***' sent the assembled crowd into a frenzy at Barclays Center.
