Ex ‘RHOC’ Star Lauri Peterson’s Son Taking Lie Detector Test In Attempted Murder Case
The son of Real Housewives of Orange County star Lauri Peterson is speaking out about his attempted murder charge, telling RadarOnline.com in an exclusive jailhouse interview that he believes there is evidence “pointing to another person,” in his case and that he is ready to take a lie detector test to prove his theory.
Josh Waring, 29, will be allowed a "contact visitation" with a licensed polygrapher in the Orange County Jail, according to an order signed by Judge Jonathan Fish.
Waring, who appeared with his mother on the Bravo show, has been in jail for nearly two and a half years and is facing three counts of attempted murder related to a June 20, 2016 shooting in Costa Mesa, Calif. Waring has pleaded not guilty to the charges. If convicted, Waring faces a life sentence.
In an exclusive interview with RadarOnline.com, Waring said he wants to take the polygraph test to prove he has been telling the truth and dispel false accusations he said prosecutors have made against him. Waring said when Orange County District Attorney Chief of Staff Susan Schroeder was interviewed on a television show about his case, the prosecutor focused mainly on attacking his credibility.
"I want to get this out to the media," Waring told RadarOnline.com exclusively. "There is so much evidence that is pointing to another person. I know they are not stipulating to let this in as evidence ... but they know I didn't do this. They just don't want the public to know that."
Waring said he admits to his struggles with his drug addiction, but maintains he is not a killer and did not fire the shots as prosecutors and police allege.
Under the order, Judge Fish wrote, "It is further ordered that said polygraph technician be permitted to bring to the visit, any equipment necessary to conduct a polygraph examination. It is further ordered that said technician be allowed to conduct a polygraph examination on Joshua Waring."
Waring said he is trying to find a technician and get final clearances from the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
In the meantime, Peterson spoke about her son's struggle with heroin addiction during an appearance on Megyn Kelly's Today show on Thursday. Peterson admitted she has struggled with helping her troubled son through his various legal problems. She said she left the RHOC partly because she wanted to focus on her family and protect her son from negative media attention.
"My commitment with Josh, from day one, when he started using drugs is, 'I will back you financial for anything you need for rehabilitation,' but we all know with addicts, there is a criminal element to it," Peterson said in the interview. "Just purchasing drugs and possessing drugs is a criminal act so with that of course he has been arrested many times. I told him I won't help with that but if he is ready to get clean, I will put whatever funds into that. That's my commitment and I struggle with that. ... He was really spiraling at a really low point, and I felt that actually being incarcerated might help him get sobered up."
Peterson said her son had access to drugs while in jail, but he has been clean for the past year and is completely focused on proving his innocence.
"Because Josh found strength and resilience, he was able to without any help from the jail...but strength from himself," Peterson said. "He has really invested himself into this case and studied and studied. It's really given him a purpose. The silver lining is he is sober."
