Matt Baier Tells All On ‘Teen Mom’ Fakery: ‘Scenes Are Redone 5 To 6 Times!’
How real is reality TV show Teen Mom OG? On this week's episode of RadarOnline.com’s podcast Teen Mom Time, Amber Portwood’s ex-fiancé Matt Baier exclusively revealed how the hit show gets the dramatic scenes viewers crave – and it involves fakery!
On the season premiere, Tyler Baltierra said how he was “repulsed” to see his wife Catelynn Lowell sit on their couch for days during her battle with depression.
“You are seeing a small sample of what was probably a long conversation,” Baier said. “I personally can’t ever see Tyler boldly saying, ‘I’m repulsed by my wife.’ You don’t know what questions were asked, you don’t know what was edited out. That’s the tough thing about being on a relationship on TV.”
He added, “They’re on for maybe ten minutes out of the hour. That conversation was probably 2, 3, 4 hours worth of the exact conversation, having the same question thrown at him 10 different ways until producers get the response they are looking for.”
Baier explained how he had a similar experience before he left the series.
“They would throw the same question at us so many different ways and you continue to give the same answer until the question is phrased a different way,” he said. “Then you give a little different answer and it’s edited together to get the response. Very tricky, but smart!”
He continued that although conversations are redone and manipulated, the show is “absolutely not scripted” and producers “are not telling anybody what to say.”
As viewers saw on the episode, Lowell and Baltierra had marital issues before they announced their pregnancy in September.
Although RadarOnline.com reported that the couple considered divorce, Baier insisted the two continue to be the strongest Teen Mom couple.
“They have been together since they were kids,” he said. “They have only been with each other. If any couple in Teen Mom is going to be together in 20 years, it’s going to be them. It’s unbelievable how much those two are dedicated to each other and love each other.”
